Monday, 1 May 2017. Apologies for the lack of posting lately! I have been suddenly and unexpectedly busy. Posting will resume next month, or possibly July. Saturday, 11 March 2017. 16 July 1881 'The Art of Shopping' by Mary Selwood. What is it in shopping which so attracts the feminine mind? Let such foolish ones lay to heart this axiom: "Never buy a thing simply because it is cheap.". Oh, but it is sure to come in some time," they reply. Oh, why don't you go to Brown's for that ribbon? Highlights from the Girl's Own Paper Online: 8 March 1884 - 'A Few Hints on Nursing for Our Girls' by A Hospital Nurse - Part 1

http://highlightsfromthegirlsownpaper.blogspot.com/2014/05/8-march-1884-few-hints-on-nursing-for.html

Monday, 26 May 2014. 8 March 1884 - 'A Few Hints on Nursing for Our Girls' by A Hospital Nurse - Part 1. The fact that almost every woman has at some time to act as a sick-nurse is generally acknowledged, but only very little provision is made for training our girls to be intelligent and efficient aids to the doctor, when their turn comes to take the management of a sick room. I wish on this occasion as a nurse of some experience to address the readers of THE GIRL’S OWN PAPER. Most extraordinary mistakes...

Sunday, 16 February 2014. 24 March 1900 - 'A Little Strengthening Medicine' by 'The New Doctor'. In which The New Doctor rails against people who use bitters and tonics when he thinks they don't need to, and a veterinary surgeon's treatment of a lady's dog is questionable. Do you think that you can cure him? Cannot you give him a little strengthening medicine to improve his appetite? 8220;Very well, madam. I will do my very best to cure him! Good morning.”. Having seen to her favourite, the lady turns he...

Highlights from the Girl's Own Paper Online: A Sampler

http://highlightsfromthegirlsownpaper.blogspot.com/p/a-sampler.html

Below are some links to pages both on this blog and the Tumblr that preceded it (I switched to Blogspot when I belatedly realised that text-heavy posts aren't particularly friendly to the Tumblr medium) that may be of particular interest or, failing that, give a fairly good idea of the general content of this archive. The May 1912 editorial about the sinking of the Titanic. How American Girls Entertain (February 1902). Dress: In Season and in Reason (November 1985). The Trousseau of Today'. In which a du...

http://highlightsfromthegirlsownpaper.blogspot.com/2014/12/19-october-1901-pixie-oshaughnessy-by.html

Tuesday, 30 December 2014. 19 October 1901 - 'Pixie O'Shaughnessy' by Mrs George de Horne Vaizey - Chapter 3. 8220;I’ll tell Miss Phipps that I wish you to go out with your brother on Saturday afternoon, and you’ll have a fine time together seeing all there is to be seen. Far greater fun than if we tried to hurry about with not a minute to spare.”. Such a pitch of propriety made her feel quite in keeping with her surroundings, and she had kid gloves too – dyed ones – which looked every bit as...I am very...

Highlights from the Girl's Own Paper Online: 12 October 1901 - 'The White House Class' by Lina Orman Cooper - Chapter 1

http://highlightsfromthegirlsownpaper.blogspot.com/2014/12/12-october-1901-white-house-class-by.html

Tuesday, 30 December 2014. 12 October 1901 - 'The White House Class' by Lina Orman Cooper - Chapter 1. Another educational serial story, in which a saintly invalid teaches three girls the finer points of middle-class cookery. It was early when Mrs Merton set forth in the festive chariot, it was late when she returned. It was very late when she showed her face next morning, for the dinner had been heavy and her sleep deep in consequence. 8220;Yes,” answered Miss Benson. “And he says even m...Mrs Merton wa...

Highlights for Hope

Monday, November 30, 2009. Who would have thought that taking yet another class would bring me to meet an amazing lady.actually Lady Diana of the movies! Well, after class in Toronto a year ago, I had not given it another thought that Lady Diana had asked me if I was interested in helping her work on wigs on a movie set one day if the opportunity arose. Who would have thought that it would happen, especially, that I am all the way in Northern Ontario! I was thrilled to say the least! A Highlight for Hope.

Highlights from a Work in Progress

Highlights from a Work in Progress. Monday, April 27, 2015. Clearly, I do not know everything. No matter what my x-husband(s) may tell you, I do not think I know everything. In fact, I am darn sure I don’t! The older I get and the more knowledge I acquire, the more I realize how little I actually do know! Every week of my middle-aged life is an adventure of some sort! Things I've learned, or relearned recently, big and small, good and bad:. Old dogs can learn new tricks, it just takes us a little longer.

Sans titre

See, that’s what the app is perfect for. Wahhhh, I don’t wanna.
