Hiking The Pain Away

Hiking The Pain Away. December 22, 2016. I have SO much to do. Thankfully, I have just under 6 months to do them. Better to get ahead of prep than be stressed out from procrastinating too long (a lesson I’ve learned one too many times). Should anyone be curious what goes on in my head in the initial stages of prep, feel free to peruse my Saina’s Camino de Santiago 2017 Prep List. Happy Holidays y’all! Camino de Santiago 2017! Trail Work | Hiking The Pain Away

https://hikingthepainaway.com/2016/03/23/trail-work

Hiking The Pain Away. March 23, 2016. I POSTED THIS ON MY FORTHEWANDERERS SITE FIRST. So kind of a duplicate. If you’ve read that, no need to read this. Just feel this is more suitable for this blog than that one. I think it’s the second week of van life, anyway. hahaha. Time is just freakin’ flyin’! I attempted a couple times with one or two people since then to get over it but my body just wasn’t feeling it. Happy Thanksgiving? | Hiking The Pain Away

https://hikingthepainaway.com/2015/11/26/happy-thanksgiving

Hiking The Pain Away. It’s around this time, I feel more depressed than usual. I have no family here. They don’t celebrate Thanksgiving. My friends are all with their families, proud to show their love. I’m happy for them. I really am but also realize I’m really all alone. It’s hard. But I also realized today, while taking a small hike around a waterfall that I couldn’t get a great shot of from the non iced areas, that I’m not trying hard enough. On a similar note, the holidays ARE where people strugglin...

Depression | Hiking The Pain Away

https://hikingthepainaway.com/2016/02/04/depression

Hiking The Pain Away. February 4, 2016. Someone very close to me today said that I’d never showed any signs therefore I can’t be as depressed as I claim to be. That was a shocker for me. I’m at the point I’m ready to let go. Which makes me wonder: what if I DID tell someone I needed help? Do I have to disclose that I’ll kill myself? Doesn’t that seem extreme? Yet every time I’ve asked for help, I’ve gotten 9 rejections out of the 10 requests. Howdy, my lovely readers! 3 thoughts on “ Depression. Enter yo...

Actually, I’ll also be endeavoring to walk the pain away — in my case, from Lyme Disease. I’m looking forward to following and, perhaps, meeting you. Happy trails! February 16, 2015 at 1:26 am. 2016 Race #19 - Marine Corps Marathon ~ Meandering Echoes

http://meanderingechoes.blogspot.com/2016/11/2016-race-19-marine-corps-marathon.html

Thursday, November 03, 2016. 2016 Race #19 - Marine Corps Marathon. Thursday, November 03, 2016. Beth and I decided to drive up to DC to save some money and even though it's a 6 hour drive (without traffic), it was definitely the way to go. Round trip with gas, hotel parking and using Uber to get to dinner Saturday and Sunday night was less than $90 to split between the two of us and we had a lot more control over when we arrived and left which was certainly a bonus. Heading down towards mile 4. You can ...

Volunteering at Ragnar Trail Atlanta ~ Meandering Echoes

http://meanderingechoes.blogspot.com/2016/04/volunteering-at-ragnar-trail-atlanta.html

Monday, April 25, 2016. Volunteering at Ragnar Trail Atlanta. Monday, April 25, 2016. I've been trying to figure out how to encapsulate all that I did as part of the SWAT (sweaty, wet and tired) team for the Ragnar Trail Atlanta. I found out about this volunteer option in talking with the Ragnar staff at last year's Angel Fire race. I was assigned the Red loop for the race which is 6.8 miles and crosses two major granite slabs. Welcome to the Red loop! Of work ahead of me. Since there were so many si...

Volunteering at Ragnar Trail Massachusetts ~ Meandering Echoes

Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Volunteering at Ragnar Trail Massachusetts. Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Read my first experience SWATing in Atlanta here. We did have a little bit of excitement on Thursday - as the Yellow loop manager was running her course, she saw a bear in the woods, so the loop managers carried bear spray for the rest of the event and we were happy to report that we didn't see any more bears for the remainder of the event! Blue Ridge Marathon: 4/22/17. January 1: Ring in 2017 17k. Lesso...

Monday, January 02, 2017. 2016: Best 9 pictures. Monday, January 02, 2017. So this is more of an Instagram thing, but I had such a tough time narrowing down by top 9 pictures this year that I thought sharing them here along with some details would be a good idea, so here we go! On Saturday followed by a marathon. In September I was able to visit Washington state for the Ragnar Trail Cascades race and we actually drove through the Cascades on our way to the race venue. This was just at a rest stop but...

Tuesday, July 26, 2016. 2016 Race #14 - Grandfather Mountain Marathon. Tuesday, July 26, 2016. I had really been struggling to get my long runs in as I got ready for this marathon. My last really long run was on May 30, which was an 18.5 mile run, but I actually walked the last 10k of that one, so the longest training runs I did for this race were half marathons - Pittsburgh half marathon. Kidd Brewer Stadium - packet pickup was inside the main concourse. That is on the website, so I was expecting some d...

Sunday, January 08, 2017. Anne Springs Close Greenway. 2017 race #1 - Ring in 2017 17k. Sunday, January 08, 2017. I loved the idea of the bells and they worked much better than when I tried to sew bells onto my hula skirt. As part of my Hawaiian Santa outfit a few years ago. The next time I want to make some noise on a run, I'll be sure to break these out again. I loved the trail directional signs around the course. I love the tunnels on the School Loop! Santa Hustle Recap ~ Meandering Echoes

http://meanderingechoes.blogspot.com/2013/12/santa-hustle-recap.html

Sunday, December 15, 2013. Sunday, December 15, 2013. Today was my last race for the year and it was certainly an entertaining race to close out the year! The Santa Hustle offered a half marathon and a 5k option, with everyone receiving a Santa hat, beard and Santa-themed technical shirt, so there were a lot of Santa variations in the race today, however I only saw one other Hawaiian Santa (technically the guy was just running in a Hawaiian shirt and the Santa hat) and I managed to pass him around mile 8.

Andy's Big Adventure | The mountains are calling and I must go

Andy's Big Adventure. The mountains are calling and I must go. 3 Years Without Andy. August 29, 2016. Often times I wonder . . . if Andy were still alive what would he be doing right now with his life. Would he be happy? Isn’t that what we all want for our children, for ourselves, for those we love? If you have an open heart, it’s what we want for all people for everyone to be happy. What I have right now are just memories, and those memories change as I grow older and my life unwittingly moves forward.

About Hiking The Pathways. Enjoying Texarkana's Trail System One At A Time. Race Review: Run the Line. April 4, 2011 by joesaulsehy. Now that some time has passed, I’d like to review my thoughts on the race. This won’t be an objective post. As a member of the organizing committee, it’s impossible for me to present an opinion that won’t be biased. With that warning, let’s get started. I made it to the starting line pretty tired. 3) The post-race party. The fact that the party is downtown, in front of ...

Mexico Here I Am

Mexico Here I Am. Saturday, January 22, 2011. True to be said, I am no stranger to the beach. Seasoned early on with the Washington coast and wind and chill, appropriate attire included jeans, a hoodie and maybe even a stocking cap. But as time has passed, slowly and with the laziest of snowbirds I gradually migrated south, enjoying warmer and warmer shores. This trip had been planned for a while. Every Christmas break the staff tries to do something with the kids that have nowhere to go. Even so, I rent...
