Washington Trail Blazers

The Washington State Trail Blazers is a private club, formed in 1933, devoted to "better alpine fishing." Club members work as volunteers for the State of Washington, backpacking trout fry into Washington's alpine lakes. We are a 501(c)(3) tax exempt corporation dedicated to continuing the alpine fishing experience for public enjoyment.

The pocket-sized Trout ID Chart helps in this effort by offering the high lakes fisherman a better understanding of the fish species they catch. High Lake Fish Surveys. Angling reports for use by WDFW biologists for managing fish in high lakes. Surveys are central to the mission of the Hi-Lakers. Details like fish weight and stomach contents are also appreciated. All the information is submitted via an on-line form on the Member’s Only section of the Web site, and compiled into a database. Tracking information about each lake over time provides valuable insights into the quality of the fishery and the high lake environment.

Lake Takhlakh Early July. July 7, 2015. I booked a campsite over 4th of July weekend at Lake Takhlakh back in February. I had visited the lake last year. Host who cryptically asked us if were camping or day tripping and then, without further inquiry, told us to go look at the lake and that “it’s doubled in size since I first saw it” We had no idea what he was referring too so we went down to the lake and saw a smoke plume rising out of the forest very close to the campsite. The fire covered 250 acres.

After being on the water for 12 hours, we docked and Perry and I went to Deception Pass where he and I would stay for a night and he left in the morning. I had three more friends coming up to meet me from Seattle and they arrived close to 11am and we tried fishing for searun cutthroat underneath the Deception Pass Bridge and then loaded up the pontoons to try and fish Pass Lake. September 5, 2014. Camped up at Lake Takhlakh for Labor Day weekend and the fishing was consistent if not abundant. The stocked rainbows were on the small side although I caught two brood stock fish that were close to two pounds each. I left the pontoon moored on the shore of the lake all weekend.
