Journey to Jordan

Monday, September 29, 2014. Adventures in Doha, Qatar! So I’m back in the USA! I had a lot of fun my last few days in Jordan and even more fun traveling back. Here are some of the last pictures I took of Madaba:. A view of Madaba, the city goes as far as we could see. So huge! Staircase leading to some awesome ancient tunnels underneath the Catholic church. Outside the Catholic church. Qatar isn’t one of the richest countries in the world for nothing. The lobby of the hotel. The Museum of Islamic Art.

Journey to Jordan: Starting to settle in.

http://www.hilaryinmadaba.blogspot.com/2014/09/starting-to-settle-in.html

Thursday, September 4, 2014. Starting to settle in. Today was my first real day. I slept surprisingly well, even with the time difference. I had stayed up all night the day before I left and I think that was actually the best thing I could have done to get a head start on the jetlag. A few other teachers have been here a few days and are still having a really hard time, but I feel pretty well adjusted already. I’m super excited about it. She just finished her second Master’s degree from O...September 4, ...

Journey to Jordan: Sweet treats!

http://www.hilaryinmadaba.blogspot.com/2014/09/school-yesterday-was-pretty-rough-again.html

Sunday, September 14, 2014. Today I found a sweet shop! I had actually passed the shop several times, but the only things I saw in the window were these orange, stringy bar things, that I assumed were fish. They are actually creamy, cheesy creations, and are pretty good. It’s kind of like cheese cake, but a little less sweet, with a crunchy, cheesy covering. Can you tell my biggest interest here is the food? In the evenings, I have been reading “Lone Survivor” the past few days (thanks Sean!

Journey to Jordan: New Plan!

http://www.hilaryinmadaba.blogspot.com/2014/09/new-plan.html

Wednesday, September 17, 2014. So I’m headed back to the States in a few days, with no real plan, no job and only some vague ideas of what kind of job I’m looking for. The adventure continues! Now that I’m not teaching, I’ve been able to see and do more cool things. Here are some pictures of the Roman amphitheater in Amman. Some other teachers, Geoff, Uncle Mark and Noah. Great people. A view of the theater and city. Such a cool place. Posted by Hilary Price. September 17, 2014 at 7:55 AM. Other cultures...

Journey to Jordan: More at school

http://www.hilaryinmadaba.blogspot.com/2014/09/more-at-school.html

Wednesday, September 10, 2014. So things are actually looking up at the kindergarten school! When I was teaching today, she stopped by my class a few times and told me how much better I was doing. She said “See, I told you it would get better! The funniest moment of all was when one of the Arabic teachers, Ruba, stopped by my class for a moment. Her son, Own, is a student in the class and she wanted to get a picture. She pulled out her phone, said “Smile! I told them that I could sort of see their side o...

Hilary In Africa | documenting my journey in Kenya.

Documenting my journey in Kenya. December 20, 2009. It’s funny that after three months in one place, you suddenly have 100 things to cram into the final three days. If it weren’t Christmas, I might have extended a bit, to see a few projects completed, but even with family gathering aside, it feels like time to go. On the news front, we have water! Getting water close to home. Hanging around, waiting to fill up their jerry cans. I’m not holding my breath, but my guess is three more weeks before ...There w...

Mother of two, would blog more if I had more time. Aug 1, 2011. How do I write after so long? What should I fill you in on? Where do I start? I am so far behind in blogging. I've had all of these post ideas in my head but there just aren't enough hours in the day. And when I spend all of my day working at a laptop I just want to come home, have a cuddle, eat some dinner, watch Big Brother, read my book and go to bed! I bet you're all wondering about the new green theme? Jun 6, 2011. And the West Village.

Life and times in rural Guatemala. Chola – Bottles and Trees. March 5, 2012. The tree house with the long slide. Community leader preparing the ground. The bathrooms ready for the roof. Two girls on their way to plant their trees. Students ready to plant. Loading the trees onto the truck. Event center and bathrooms. The committee next to the bottle walls. Working with one of the scholarship students. Getting cake smeared on my face. Me working on the second level. When we got there, the COCODE (community...

Hilary in Senegal.

Thursday, August 23, 2012. So with that, i can leave knowing that my village understands. now i am dakar, starting the process of coming home. It is really hard to sum up one of the most formative experiences of your life. without being overly sentimental or overly jaded (as my good friend once put it to me), i will just say that the last year and a half has been heart-breakingly beautiful, incredibly frustrating, yet insanely rewarding. i feel blessed and humbled. Friday, June 29, 2012. Oh and congrats ...

My Seoul Journey

Feb 23, 2009. After being home for just over 2 weeks, I have just one thing to say. It's cold over here! Actually, I think I have a lot more than just that to say, but it's all forming very slowly in my head (possibly because the cold is slowing my brain function down). But, it's ok, I need to stay busy. I'm back in America and it hasn't quite hit me that this is probably where I'm going to be for a while. I feel poised for flight. I feel out of place. And, maybe most important. that a person can rec...

And now I sit here in front of the computer with only one last task for the evening – write my farewell post for Hilary Inspired. I feel sadly at a loss for sufficient words. What’s with me? Soon my technology will all run out of battery and I’ll need to search for outlets. At least I don’t have to use a converter for the outlets! It will be a bit of a shock to go home and start to drive. I just got used to the cars being on the opposite side of the road! Man, I wish I could find an outlet…. I need to find some power and food! Saying Goodbye to New Zealand.
