Hillend Dabbler

Wednesday, 27 September 2017. A Little Trout Action. Tuesday the 26th Sept I headed up North to the Spey Dam for the second time this season, on which will probably be my last outing of the season. On this occasion my mate Scott came along with me. Once we had uplifted our permits and oars etc from the hotel we made the short drive up to the loch. On arrival at the banks side boat moorings there was a brisk easterly wind blowing down the loch and the surrounding hills were covered in low lying mist.

Hillend Dabbler: December 2014

http://hillenddabbler.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 31 December 2014. Ring out the old and Bring in the New! This will obviously be my last post of the year. For me personally it has been a year of change as I finally got my act together and made lifestyle changes which will benifit me in the years ahead because for too long I have been restricting myself and not fulfilling my life because of my health and weight etc. I have many lochs and mountains in mind which I intend explore and hopefully get some wild camps too. So folks I hope you all ha...

Hillend Dabbler: It's Just not Cricket!

http://hillenddabbler.blogspot.com/2015/06/its-just-not-cricket.html

Tuesday, 16 June 2015. It's Just not Cricket! After a cessation from fishing for over a month I at long last managed to get to the Loch on Sunday for a trip out on the boat and also a trip up on Monday to fish from the south shore. My boat partner Davie didn't fair any better. We tried various locations without success. It was suggested that the trout were feeding on the Caenis otherwise known as the Fisherman's Curse and I can totally understand why they are so named. However Monday was slightly better.

Hillend Dabbler: October 2014

Friday, 10 October 2014. The Dabbler Live @ The Lily Loch. As the Lily Loch fishing season doesn't end until the the end of October I decided to have a few hours up at the Lily Loch this afternoon and as well as my fly rod and flies etc I took along the recording equipment and put together a very amateurish podcast. Give it a listen by clicking the link below! Links to this post. Monday, 6 October 2014. The Fly tying season begins! Well I never did manage to have one last day at the loch today. The Fly t...

Hillend Dabbler: March 2015

http://hillenddabbler.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Sunday, 29 March 2015. Its still feels like winter. Despite the atrocious weather today @ Hillend I managed to stay out long enough in the biting wind and rain long enough to fool a couple of trout from in and around the Shields Burn area. Since the start of the season Ive not had one comfortable session on the Loch as its been bitterly cold and my hands have never been so sore and cold with the wind. Perhaps its an age thing! The clocks might have went forward last night but it still feels like winter.

Hillend Dabbler: Lucky at the Lily

http://hillenddabbler.blogspot.com/2015/06/lucky-at-lily.html

Friday, 26 June 2015. Lucky at the Lily. Just quick post to report that I had a few hours at the Lily Loch on Thursday and enjoyed the peace and quite and very pleasant weather up there in the morning which was in stark contrast to what Ive been experiencing at Hillend recently. To make things even better I even managed to fool an acrobatic trout with an olive nymph. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Dabbler of Hillend. Enthusiastic flyfisher and flytyer. Antermony Rise: July 2013

http://antermonyrise.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Fly fishing, fly tying and friends. My Fly Tying Videos. Saturday, 13 July 2013. A Day to Remember on Loch Walton. Esterday I thought I'd died and gone to fishing heaven. You see, I was fishing Loch Walton in the Campsies. Those of you who know it, will understand my excitement. It's a magical loch, remote and as wild as can be for these parts. Indeed looking around, you could be forgiven for thinking that you were fishing one of the hill lochs in Assyint or the Connemaras. First fish of the day. During ...

Fly fishing, fly tying and friends. My Fly Tying Videos. Friday, 31 May 2013. Thursday, 16 May 2013. Broon, as he's known to his pals, and I had agreed to meet up at the fishery early doors. It was a still morning, overcast with some bright spells. I arrived at 8:30am and with no sign of Broon I paid my ticket and made my way up to the loch. Twenty minutes later my flies, a Rainbow Warrior and Claret Dabbler were taking their first swim attached to Cortland blue intermediate. Broon with the first of many.

News and Information from the Burrator Fly Fishers Club. Sunday, 21 June 2015. Frank Dunlop - RIP. I was very sad to hear that he passed away on Monday last as a result of domestic accident in his garage at his new home in Lincolnshire. It seems he was taken to hospital in Peterborough by emergency ambulance but did not survive. On behalf of the club I have sent a condolence card to his wife and family. Here are a couple of pictures of Frank from his Burrator days:. With Linda - Christmas 2011. Salford F...

Tenkara on the Fly: Tenkara Fly Swap @ TenkaraUSA Forum

http://www.tenkaraonthefly.net/2010/12/tenkara-fly-swap-tenkarausa-forum.html

Wednesday, December 29, 2010. Tenkara Fly Swap @ TenkaraUSA Forum. On the most active Tenkara forum. On the web (in the US at least), the first Tenkara fly swap is about to be finished with the flies due in SLC on Jan. 3. I tied up what I call the Blue Poison Sakasa Kebari. This fly should be fun to fish, a bit of sparkle and a color trout don't see too often. This should produce well with Brookies and Cutt's in the high altitude creeks. Tight Lines, -K. December 29, 2010 at 6:34 PM. Happy New Year, K.
