In Ashtanga, we breath Ujayi, or Victorious Sounding Breath. This technique is practiced for several reasons. Ujayi breath brings sound to the practice – softening the back of the throat and breathing in and out through the nose, audibly (i.e. like the ocean or Darth Vader ) gives the mind something to focus on while in postures.
