A former Carmelite friary founded in 1342 and having the longest friary church in England. It was closed in 1538 as part to the dissolution of the Monasteries and sold to John Hales. He had much of the monastery demolished, including the church, but retaining part of the cloister into a private home. Queen Elizabeth I, on her only visit to Coventry, stayed Whitefriars and spoke to the citizens of Coventry from the main window. E: info@historicoventry.org.uk. One of the most prominent routes into the City centre which are now sadly neglected but still having a large number of historical buildings mainly used as shops. The River Sherborne, that flows behind the shops in the Burges, has been covered over and unseen by the public for many years. The Trust intends to bring back the charm of the area and upgrade the shopping experience. There are plans to reopen the River as much as possible and bring in new buildings in line with those already present.
