An avenue for updates and discussion relating to the Historic Gardens in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. Sunday, November 16, 2008. Did you ever take the time to study a tree in the winter? No longer adorned with all its glorious leaves or flowers, it stands there naked for all the world to see. But indeed, that is it's most remarkable time. when one can truly appreciate the intricate branchwork that hides behind its canopy all summer long. Sunday, November 16, 2008. And the surrounding area. Through this blog I hope to inspire others to share the places I have found, and ask others to share their special locations. Of course, one of my faves is the Historic Gardens. Let's have some fun, and explore this area with camera in hand! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Time for a change.

The Garden Shutterbug: Carpe Diem
http://thegardenshutterbug.blogspot.com/2008/11/carpe-diem.html
Wednesday, November 5, 2008. Many of the best photo opps come from being in the right place at the right time. pure luck! In these photos, I happened to be in the downtown area as a heavy fog was hanging over the river and wisping into the downtown core, and there was not a breath of wind. I "ran for my camera" and spent about 15 minutes taking a bunch of photos. and then it was gone. The fog was dissipating even as I was taking the photos. So seize the moment! The Garden Shutterbug: November 2008
http://thegardenshutterbug.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html
Friday, November 21, 2008. Sometimes opportunity knocks when you least expect it. The day last August, for instance, when our tree services folks came to take a sample from one of our giant elms. Late August, annuals in their full glory, and there's a bucket truck out in my parking lot! So after a short conversation with our tree guy, there I am in the bucket, heading up into the sky with camera in hand. What a view! This is one of many pictures I shot in that very special ten minutes. Back to my roots.

Musings of a lifelong Annapolitan. Canadian Annapolitan, that is. from Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia! Sunday, November 16, 2008. Windows into the past. I've spent some time ruminating about windows lately. Vinyl inserts, wooden inserts, aluminum storms. there's a whole world of modern inventions out there, yet we are reluctant to use them in heritage buildings. It's such a wide ranging debate, and there are so many things to consider. What are we protecting? The inside, or the outside? Compromises have be...

The Historic Gardener | historic gardener
Mascall’s ‘Hare Pipe’ Trap. July 1, 2015. I was preparing some items to take to Aston Court to give my talk, ‘Those Tempestuous Tudors.’ The talk is about the use of plants during the Tudor period, but it includes poisons and a few other gruesome gardening subjects. I thought a trap would also be a useful addition. With a limited amount of time available, I consulted my copy of Leonard Mascall ‘s. Mascall says that the pipe is made of elder, presumably as the pith can easily be removed to make a pipe....
