For hundreds of years, over 80% of the American population lived in semi-isolation on small family farms scattered throughout the countryside. Award-winning Hancock's Resolution is one of the very few of those farms still remaining. Due to its authenticity and simplicity it is considered a "National Treasure". The town was named after James Madison Handley who was a Confederate Major in the Civil War. He owned a very large plantation to the east of this town. Handley.
