Things I Don’t Want to Live Without. Posted by Jennifer Harris. February 8, 2013. Peonies (Photo credit: jessyroos). In no particular order, these are some things I’m grateful for and don’t want to live without:. At least one dog and one cat in the house. Smell of freshly mown grass. One friend who knows me so well she’s not afraid to be honest. The sound of my daughter’s laughter. A freshly sharpened pencil. Handmade quilt on the bed. A flower garden in the yard. Birds on my bird feeder. A good road map.

If my ancestral mothers saw me preparing for marriage, how many thought of unions of bondage? How many remembered bonds of love? How many labor pains held hours of grief over expectations not accomplished? How many times did having a child mean the end of youth? How many times the beginning of joy? I am the first in that long line of women to ...

What I Want My Daughter To Know, Pt. 1. Posted by Jennifer Harris. February 13, 2013. Over the past three days, I struggled with a previous version of this post; a version that was almost entirely politically based. I came off as self-righteous and preachy, so, I dumped it into the electronic trash-bin. I started this blog in order to practice writing what I mean. Content of Their Character. What do I mean by backward racism? You are no better than anyone else, Jenny. Remember that. You ought to ...Botto...
