Crane, Jr. (d. 1931) and his wife, Florence (d. 1949). Just another WordPress.com site. June 3, 2012. On a rainy day this past March I visited the Anderson House. In Washington, DC. This beautiful mansion is another of the city’s lesser known museum attractions. The residence was home to Larz Anderson III. 1866-1937), a wealthy businessman and diplomat (he served as U.S. Ambassador to Japan from 1912 to 1913). He was married to Isabel Weld Perkins. 1876-1948), a Boston-area heiress and author. The Society of the Cincinnati. And tagged House Museums. You are ...

Just another WordPress.com site. May 8, 2012. Moving considerably east of Boston (to Akron, Ohio), today we visit Stan Hywet Hall. Constructed in the Tudor Revival style, the estate is now a national historic landmark and historic house museum. Just another WordPress.com site. Woodrow Wilson House →. May 15, 2012. This past March I visited Hillwood. The former home of Post Cereal heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post. 1887-1973), in Washington, DC. Hillwood has one of the best museum slogans I’ve come across in my travels – “Where Fabulous Lives” (I love it! French furniture, tapestries, and paintings). Marjorie Merriweather Post assembled an amazing collection of art, and this museum has a definite “bling” factor. The “Icon Room” is w...The Adam ...

Just another WordPress.com site. Castle Hill / The Crane Mansion. Stan Hywet Hall →. May 8, 2012. For a quick change of pace from all the mansions I seem to continually visit on my travels we’ll make a quick detour to the Paul Revere House. An extremely old house (by American standards! The house is very charming, and is quite evocative of Boston’s English colonial heritage. Approaching the front side of the Paul Revere House from the southwest. A close-up of the house’s front side. Stan Hywet Hall →.
