A Helmholtz coil is a means of generating a magnetic field that is essentially uniform in magnitude and direction within the coil. I have built a number of such coils, to test the performance, and specifically the orientation, of T-coils in hearing aids and cochlear implants. The startling feature of this thing is its manner of seed distribution - when mature, as it seemed to be in early May, when disturbed it ejects a burst of seeds. literally in your face, when you go to pull it. Noise Based Hearing Tests. Here's a different sort of hearing test, in two different versions:. Each consists of a noise signal lasting 30 seconds, which has no intelligible content, but is manipulated in various ways, but is always a hiss. In the first version, the noise is "white", meaning that it contains the same noise level at all frequencies, although the frequencies are limited with low pass filters. (band-limited white noise). Published: 26 March 2015. My hearing started to degrade about 20 years ago, in my mid-50s. It started with intermittent tinnitus, and the high frequencies then began to fade away. I had some major episodes of vertigo, and had a diagnosis of Menière's disease. I got one hearing aid, then a second, both analog in-the-ear devices.
