Our flight booked on the internet traveling with British Airways went well, hardly any delay in booking in at Gatwick and the plane was only half full, and it was the first time we had leather seats on a plane! The pick up of the rental car with Hertz, although booked before hand, took about three quarters of an hour before we actually got to drive off in the car, a Ford Focus which had only 5000 miles on the clock. Salobrena and San Pedro. The first week of our holiday we stayed at the Calamedina no 4, on the cliffs below the Monte de los Almendros, about two kilometers from Salobrena. Calamedina is a small development of about 20 individually designed houses. The view from our balcony, across part of Calamedina, with Salobrena in the distance. The sitting room in Calamedina 4. Djerba Beach Hotel, Jerba. One of our most unforgettable holidays, for good reasons. The main reason being the ride on a camel into the Grand Erg desert. The beaches were long and not crowded, the camels were a sign of a journey to come. We did not hire a car on this holiday, so we booked for several coach trips out. The first was to Matmata, a town with homes and hotels built underground. The film Star wars was partly filmed in the area of desert here. On our journey back we stopped at one of the Souks.

Portugal September 15th to 29th 2007. All bird photos Digiscoped with Nikon ED82, 30XDS eyepiece and Nikon P5000 camera, unless marked. General pictures taken with a Sony F717. Our flight from Heathrow with British Airways to Lisbon was on time, so we landed at 10.15am. Our cases must have been the last off the carousel, which was a little disconcerting, although all the digiscoping gear including tripod was in our hand luggage, so birding would have been fine anyway! This trip report is a little different because we are fairly new to birdwatching and identification of the birds we see.We saw many other birds which we have not mentioned in this report, we didn’t know what they were. Sorry. The bird pictures were digiscoped using a Nikon ED82 scope with 30xDS eyepiece and a Fuji F30 camera attached to the scope with my own homemade fold up adaptor.
