In 1951 large swathes of the Harpur Crewes North Staffordshire estate were sold to pay death duties. The following is the catalogue of the three day sale in July 1951. It must have been a tremendous change for the area as tenants became owner-occupiers or acquired new landlords. The dominance of the Harpurs was over after almost four centuries. Hollinsclough Church of England Academy supports the educational needs of the children within the Benefice of Longnor (including Quarnford, Flash and Sheen areas which are within the Ecclesiastical Parish of Longnor). The original Hollinsclough St. Agnes Church of England School was founded in 1789. The church building still remains, but is now owned and operated by the Carlton Academy.
