The Home Economist: 01.13

http://homeeconomistmelissa.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Saved Recipes from Magazines. Home Economist: Liberty Edition. I needed a quick yet satisfying project to follow the Christmas sweater, and boy was this it! It's a little keyhole scarf done in brioche stitch, which was a new technique for me. I loved learning it! As you can see, it is a reversible stitch, with the colorful yarn prominent on one side, and the black yarn prominent on the other. Links to this post. A Trio of Sweaters. It's been quite a while since I last posted, and for good reason! Maybe a...

The Home Economist: 08.13

http://homeeconomistmelissa.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Saved Recipes from Magazines. Home Economist: Liberty Edition. 24 Hours With a Stray Cat. This certainly isn't my usual kind of post. It's not about something I made, but about something wonderful that happened that I feel is worth sharing. Here goes. We were just on our way out the door, heading to a yoga class together, when there she was, right in front of the door, meowing. The poor thing was obviously hungry. Jeet ran off to get his baggie of food from the car, and. So what are you, a dog? Who knew ...

The Home Economist: The Go-To Cardigan

http://homeeconomistmelissa.blogspot.com/2013/10/the-go-to-cardigan.html

Saved Recipes from Magazines. Home Economist: Liberty Edition. Wow It's been a while since I had a new finished knitted thing to share! I'm pretty pleased with this one. My goal was to make a cozy and versitile cardigan that I'd hopefully get a lot of use out of. You know, the kind of thing you can throw on over just about anything when the air is chilly. The result is this, my new Go-To Cardigan. The pattern was free online here. I'd definitely use this yarn again. Heck, I'd make this pattern again!

http://homeeconomistmelissa.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Saved Recipes from Magazines. Home Economist: Liberty Edition. I like to balance big projects like sweaters with small, quick silly things like amigurumi. So after finishing my Go-To Cardigan. I whipped up these little guys. I've been making fitness more of a priority lately, so for fun I made these little workout buddies: a Kettlebell Cutie and a Darling Dumbbell! I just improvised the patterns myself based on basic amigurumi shapes (sphere, cylinder, etc.). Links to this post. Nice shaping at the waist.

The Home Economist: Liberty Edition: Libertarian Haiku

http://homeeconomistliberty.blogspot.com/2011/08/libertarian-haiku.html

The Home Economist: Liberty Edition. Thursday, August 18, 2011. A little hobby of mine is writing topical haiku poetry*. This is what I came up with. No masters, no slaves. I make my own way. Laden with thick chains. Under the guise of safety. I can hardly move. Pop goes the bubble. And the State is the bandit. I hold my head high. For my burden is heavy. But my heart is Free. I would rather be. An enemy of the State. Than of my neighbor. Left versus the Right. A play produced by the State.

The Home Economist: Liberty Edition: It's Not Easy Being... Red?

http://homeeconomistliberty.blogspot.com/2011/12/its-not-easy-being-red.html

The Home Economist: Liberty Edition. Thursday, December 8, 2011. It's Not Easy Being. Red? Recently a very boneheaded article. Was brought to my attention (by the hubster, for my enjoyment), alerting me to the fact that Fox Business was on the attack against my beloved Muppets, calling them communists! This shall not stand, and not just because I've adored the Muppets since childhood, but because the whole premises for both Fox Business' AND HuffPost's arguments are wrong. The Home Economist: Liberty Edition: The Immorality of Taxation

http://homeeconomistliberty.blogspot.com/2011/08/immorality-of-taxation.html

The Home Economist: Liberty Edition. Wednesday, August 17, 2011. The Immorality of Taxation. I thought I'd kickstart the blog with a few thoughts on taxation. There's been more talk lately about higher taxes on the rich (from Obama and Buffett. To name two). "They should pay their fair share! The gap between the rich and the poor is too big. There needs to be more fairness! They can afford it! Even hip-hop mogul Russel Simmons. They were done privately and voluntarily . I Hate What Taxes Stand For. We co...

The Home Economist: Liberty Edition. Monday, August 22, 2011. Economic Freedom vs. Income Equality. Recently, in the "Comments" section of my post, The Immorality of Taxation. Some clips of Jon Stewart discussing his views on taxation and income equality were brought to my attention. One thing that really caught my attention was Stewart's citation of the Index for Income Equality. And his mockery at the United States' position at #64. Income Equality: What does it mean? The market is no longer allowed to...

I specified that the t-shirt be pale blue, and even added my own text. The original said "Individualism" (and others say things like "Stop Something" and "Disobey"), but I wanted mine to say "Freedom Fighter". The Home Economist: Liberty Edition: The Non-Aggression Principle

http://homeeconomistliberty.blogspot.com/2011/12/non-aggression-principle.html

The Home Economist: Liberty Edition. Thursday, December 1, 2011. If you had to boil down libertarianism to its essence, it's very core philosophies, I think it comes down to two things: self ownership, and the non-aggression principle. Today I want to talk a bit about the latter. First, a video featuring Stefan Molyneux of Freedomain Radio explaining the non-aggression principle. Most recently, a very terrifying bill has been passed. December 1, 2011 at 4:15 PM. December 3, 2011 at 4:33 AM. Taking the co...
