Sweet Georgia and the Crafty Squirrel: Anything but not everything
http://sweetgeorgiathecraftysquirrel.blogspot.com/2015/04/anything-but-not-everything.html
Sweet Georgia and the Crafty Squirrel. Monday, 27 April 2015. Anything but not everything. Six months ago the opportunity came up to job share a position I have been wanting to do for probably 10 years now. A six month position where I took leave from my job and get to return after six months away - hopefully better skilled . Gold panning in the local river. Blog - the body image movement - and I went out and purchased a comfortable stretch pair of work trousers. ( I put the tight ones up high on a s...

Sweet Georgia and the Crafty Squirrel. Friday, 2 January 2015. Summer has arrived with beautiful weather and hot days after a cold and rainy spring:. A Tui feeding on the flowering flax in our garden. Fast forward from Kids Clothes week in October to now: a new job with a longer commute, the end of the school year and all the social events that xmas and the new year bring - making was at a minimum. We started by making some new pillowcases for summer - fabric paint on white cases:. With a few days off af...

cabbage tree farm: December 2014
http://cabbagetreefarm.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 26, 2014. Season's greetings to everyone, hope you had a lovely day. It's always a bit of a rush in the build up to Xmas day, especially here in NZ as it coincides with Summer and school holidays. We had a really nice day with family, the weather was warm and overcast and it was pleasant to sit outside on the deck without cooking in the hot sun! I will now share a photo of my first attempt at a gingerbread house from last year. You will see just how truely awful it was! At last we have o...
cabbage tree farm: March 2014
http://cabbagetreefarm.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 28, 2014. It's apple season here on CTF. I am steadily working my way through mountains of apples. OK 'mountains' might be a slight exaggeration, but there are certainly quite a few kilos! Here is a big box of delicious 'Reinette du Canada' apples - a French heirloom apple - that I picked yesterday. This variety is great for cooking, but it can also be eaten as a dessert apple. We usually cook it. Some of these apples get quite big. The biggest one I picked was 500g (18 oz)! Disappointingly...

cabbage tree farm: June 2014
http://cabbagetreefarm.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 30, 2014. OK so the credit must of course go to the bees rather than me for actually making. The beeswax. All I've done is just clean it up and let it solidify into nice blocks which I can then use for all sorts of crafts. You will notice I've put newspaper down to protect the garage floor, just in case of any spills. Once all the wax was used up, the molds were filled, the wax was left to cool and harden (overnight). So that's basically one way to process beeswax. I will probably melt a...
cabbage tree farm: August 2014
http://cabbagetreefarm.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 31, 2014. Today is (officially at least) the last day of Winter here in NZ. It has been appropriately wet and windy for the last few days, so I hope when Spring finally does arrive it will bring more sunny days and some slightly warmer temperatures. Mostly though, I look forward to those still days when I don't have to battle the wind to get anything done outdoors! We are quite exposed to the winds here being located on a peninsula in the Kaipara harbour. Thinking I might put in some more ...
cabbage tree farm: Rangpur lime marmalade
http://cabbagetreefarm.blogspot.com/2015/02/rangpur-lime-marmalade.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. It's been a while since I've made any marmalade. In fact, it seems I last made up a batch of lime marmalade. In 2009 according to this blog! The Rangpur limes have by far been the hardiest and quickest growing of all of our citrus trees. They have handled drought, storms and a bit of neglect pretty well. They consistently have fruit on them. All this is much appreciated since the other citrus, especially the lemons, are growing quite slowly. Gill - That British Woman. No its ...

Thursday, January 26, 2012. Scratch and Peck Homegrown Living Shelby, Texas. Well, I guess I lied. Back on January 9th, I proclaimed that my New Year's resolution was to blog at least twice a week.dang, January isn't even over yet and I already bombed out on that resolution. Maybe it's better if I don't make a resolution :). God gave parents the responsibility to protect and train children to grow into adults. However, I believe that this looks much different than we were led to believe. Kitchen Gardening in Miami Springs. Saturday, September 18, 2010. I've been in hiding. I'll make no justifiable excuse. It is simply that I hate fighting the unstoppable growth in the face of daily monsoons. The rain is so thick that the ground and the air is saturated. Even when I push myself out the door and beat back the growth, it is inevitable the lighting will crack overhead, beginning the riskiest gamble "can I get 10 more minutes? Time to take inspiration from my fellow local gardeners. Time ...
