Benthic Marine Algal Herbarium. Algae – Any of various primitive, chiefly aquatic, one-celled or multicellular organisms that lack true stems, roots, and leaves but usually contain chlorophyll. Benthic Marine Algal Herbarium. About The Benthic Marine Algal Herbarium of Long Island Sound Collection. This collection was created to produce an identification database of collected and pressed specimens of algae from the Long Island Sound for teaching purposes while at the same time creating an image archive for UConn's algal herbarium. The image archive and compendium document all benthic marine macroalgal species in the Long Island Sound. Dr Charles Yarish Collection.
