Homesteading in Suburbia: Granola Simplified
http://homesteadinginsuburbianj.blogspot.com/2016/02/granola-simplified.html
It is probably the fastest, easiest, healthiest snack you can make at a fraction of store prices right in your own Kitchen! It really is that simple; rolled oats and brown sugar (I personally use Sucanat) or local honey, accompanied by ANY filler you choose. The benefits of granola include fiber, may help to control blood sugar and lower bad cholesterol. You feel fuller which means you'll eat less calories throughout the day and have more energy. Base Ingredients and Fillers. Fresh from the Oven. Remove ...

Heading to the Beach? Tips and advice to keep your dog happy and safe. I've been writing a lot of posts lately about dogs. Perhaps because we recently adopted Macy, a 4-month-old puppy and have been acclimating her in her new home, along with our older, 9-year-old dog Oscar and 12-year-old cat, Ginger. I happy to report she's fitting in just fine! First and foremost, BEFORE you leave the house, make sure you are going to a dog-friendly beach. Check local regulations and make phone calls if necessary.

http://homesteadinginsuburbianj.blogspot.com/2016/04/growing-in-shade.html
Growing in the Shade. Not everyone is blessed with open space, plenty of sunlight and perfect soil. If you're one of the 'unlucky' ones but still yearn to have a robust garden, this post is for you. Let's start off with the soil. In our nearly 30 years of gardening, we have never tested the soil. Perhaps that was to our determent but I don't believe so. Our gardens typically produce well without any intervention except the following;. Properly till the garden. Compost. We compost. Puts it very simply; "C...

The Blog of the Light Footsteps Herb Farm and Learning Center. Natural Pregnancy, Birth, Parenting. August 9, 2015. Around here, summer is still in full swing. It’s been hot, the garden is starting to produce a lot, and we’ve been enjoying our very full days around the farm. Recently, we had family visiting for a week and I had a request for mustard. I had the mustard seeds sitting right there ready to make a fresh batch, but this summer grilling essential still had not been made. By Rosalee de la Foret.

Homesteading in the Dust
Homesteading in the Dust. Saturday, June 6, 2015. Homestead Round Up: June 6th, 2015. So much has been going on and I've been too busy to post much. I went on an expedition around town to gather some supplies for a future project:. I love a full truck bed! I also found a gorgeous chair next to a dumpster! Needs recovering, but it's sturdy. I removed the old furnace and built a pantry unit! It's pretty sturdy. I'd love to add in another shelf or two, but we'll see. Now they're enjoying their new coop:.
