Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog: June 2005
http://scootersweightloss.blogspot.com/2005_06_01_archive.html
Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog. Thursday, June 23, 2005. This post is about Brennan Hawkins, the 11 year-old Boy Scout who was found alive and well after spending 4 days in the wilderness in Utah. I'm glad (and a bit surprised) that he was found alive. The key to Brennan's survival here was pure luck - the weather was quite warm throughout the 4 days (and nights) he was missing. Had it been just a few degrees colder, or rainy, the outcome could well have been different. Sunday, June 12, 2005.

Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog. Thursday, March 31, 2005. One of the more pleasant pieces of news I've seen is this announcement of an attack on obesity from Sesame Street. Http:/ www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php? It's important to get the right messages out there early. Posted by Scooter at 10:32 AM. Monday, March 28, 2005. The Benefits of a Healthier Lifestyle. I'm not sure if the reflux issue was due to generally eating less (less food in the stomach means the top of the stomach is no...

Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog. Tuesday, May 17, 2005. Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil. The result is that these fats tend to build up in our bodies and appear now to contribute more to things like heart attack risk disproportionately from other oils. That means we should get back to reading labels and try our best to avoid foods that contain these chemically modified oils. The response I consistently hear is, "None.". But I go out of my way to buy the Doritos brand because they are free...

Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog: July 2005

Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog. Monday, July 25, 2005. I am hopeful, though realistic, in my doubting that unless an Amercan contends overall, things like OLN's coverage of the tour will disappear in the next several years. The other piece of baggage that goes with that is the probability that Discovery and CSC may not continue to sponsor teams, which will hurt cycling in the USA. Pump your tires and get out there! Who knows, your kid could be the next Lance! Posted by Scooter at 10:47 AM.

Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog: December 2004
http://scootersweightloss.blogspot.com/2004_12_01_archive.html
Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog. Tuesday, December 28, 2004. Some Websites I Like (and Trust). First, let me say that there are a lot of very questionable (and potentially dangerous) websites, and if you wind up making bad choices, you can hurt (or perhaps even kill) yourself. These sites are from sources that I believe to be reliable and I am not being paid to recommend them, so my recommendations are based strictly on my belief that they spread good and reliable information. You may not real...

Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog. Tuesday, November 30, 2004. Losing Weight by Food Substitution. I had someone ask me about the math involved in losing weight. I realized that I didn't know the formulas for calorie consumption. I started dieting by cutting back on food, but found I was hungry most of the time, and that made me cranky. After reducing my level of dieting, I found I could lose weight by substituting foods. It's a fairly simple process:. Posted by Scooter at 12:50 PM. I haven't we...

Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog: January 2005
http://scootersweightloss.blogspot.com/2005_01_01_archive.html
Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog. Wednesday, January 26, 2005. OK, I got lazy. I weighed myself almost a week ago and didn't report. I was 158! That was 6 lbs. that I'd lost of the 12. (OK, I found that 4 lbs. was a bit hard to believe, so I reweighed and reweighed, and at the different times got 160 and 161, so maybe I had lost some water when I did that first weighing.). Scooter's Healthy and Active Living Weblog. Friday, April 29, 2005. Part of the reason for this post is to celebrate my finding the term "gastrocolic reflex" - it was something that I'd heard mentioned a long time ago, but could not hear the actual term, so I decided to Google it and using several terms that I expected would be used in a discussion of this, quickly found the term and checked several more sites to confirm that it was what I was looking for. Posted by Scooter at 4:13 PM. I am a proponent o...
