Founded in 2000 by Father Francis Gaciata in Mitunguu, a village within the Meru district situated below Mount Kenya, St. Francis of Assisi now supports about 13 villages and over 15000 people. During the rainy period crops grows and the livestock thrives however the whole area, powdery red soil, turns into a muddy swamp which increases the proliferation of mosquitoes infected with malaria thus killing those who cannot afford a mosquito net or medicines to treat it.
