The share of nonelderly adults with problems paying family medical bills over the previous year declined from 22.0 percent in September 2013 to 17.3 percent in March 2015. Problems paying medical bills declined among adults in both Medicaid expansion states and nonexpansion states. The number of uninsured adults fell 15 million between September 2013 and March 2015, a decline of 42.5 percent. The uninsurance rate is down 52.5 percent in states that have expanded Medicaid and 30.6 percent in states that have not.
