Behind the scenes with Debbie at DT Craft and Design - home, life, love (and dyeing! Wednesday, 26 November 2014. Q&A's - Can I re-dye a garment to cover a bleach mark or fading? Unlike paints which are often opaque, dyes are transparent. This means that the dye will "overlay" the original colour but the original colour will affect whatever dye is placed on top of it. If the original colour is very pale the finished shade will be correspondingly less affected but may still carry a cast of the original.
