Reading and writing, volunteering. Wednesday, 31 December 2014. Recommended read for any returning volunteer. The Book of Strange New Things. I loved his short novella The Hundred and Ninety Nine Steps. Tremendous book. A must read one which I suspect will be with me for way long after the physical book has been returned to the Library. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Thursday, 25 December 2014. Thursday, December 25, 2014. Monday, 22 December 2014. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Best wishes for 2015!

ashramblings: Thoughts for a defeated Liberal politician
http://ashramblings.blogspot.com/2015/05/thoughts-for-defeated-liberal-politician.html
Reading and writing, volunteering. Monday, 11 May 2015. Thoughts for a defeated Liberal politician. He sits in front of his computer screen. Fixating vacantly on its pixels. Amongst feelings of rejection,. Still showing in his red, tired and baggy eyes;. The open window to his depressed soul. Rejected by that 4:40 alarm call. Yesterday he had it all. Now nothing, redundant;. Waits before him as an empty screen. 169; Sheila Ash, 11 May 2015. Monday, May 11, 2015. Labels: Halesworth Creative Writing Group.

Reading and writing, volunteering. Sunday, 28 September 2014. Desiccate into unobserved obscurity. Line up along the window ledge. Taut with expectation of dawning liquidity. Flows down the breeze. Reading and writing, volunteering. Friday, 27 March 2015. A lyrical account of exile and return – I Saw Ramallah by Mourid Barghouti. Having recently read Susan Abulhawa. 8217;s novel Mornings in Jenin. It is excellent. A lyrical, thought provoking account of homeland, exile, displacement, memory, loss and return. The man studied English Language and Literature and is a renowned poet and you can hear this in his narrator’s voice. His turn of phrase is exquisite, for example as he patiently wait...It is t...

ashramblings: Mongolian Winter, 2010
http://ashramblings.blogspot.com/2015/05/mongolian-winter-2010.html
Reading and writing, volunteering. Saturday, 9 May 2015. Mongolian Winter, 2010. Slowly it advances ever onward. Crossing mountains, plains and seas. Relentless, creeping fingers of death. Of white and cold. Of ice and snow. Of mist and fog. The cold one approaches. Life snaps away at the gentlest touches. Whilst moonlight shimmers on the winter ice. The lakes, solid to depth. Giant mirrors on the barren-dry, unyielding earth. Enclosed on all side by mountains white from top to toe. The herds lie dying.

Reading and writing, volunteering. Thursday, 30 October 2014. The diary lies open and empty. A clock strikes the next hour again. Family photos loose colour and yellow. Raffle tickets bring hope to the pain. One cup stands by the teapot. One plate, one knife and one fork. One pair of boots by the door for the winter. Two red roses tied in a knot. Silent, the doorbell is waiting. For fingers that never come. Dust covers mementos in mourning. The stillness of a life well done. 169; Sheila Ash, 2014. Friday...
