조선 후기 당쟁과 정치적 불안 속에서 생활하던 사대부 관료들은 언제나 때가 되면 조용한 자연 속에 은거하여 독서와 후생(後生)을 가르칠 준비를 하고 있었다. 이러한 정치적 상황에서 김수증은 1670년(현종 11) 이곳에 들어와 초당을 짓고 곡운정사(谷雲精舍)라 하였으며, 농수정(籠水亭)과 가묘(家廟)도 건립하였다. 그 후 잠시 관계에 나가기도 하였으나, 1689년(숙종 15) 기사환국(己巳換局)으로 동생 수항(壽恒)이 사사되자 다시 벼슬을 버리고 곡운정사로 돌아왔다. 산 아래 물가에 요엄류정과 맞보고 있는 바위에 정자 하나를 더 세워 삼일정(三一亭)이라고 하였는데, 지형 관계로 기둥 세 개만 세웠다. 들보 밑바닥에 태극도(太極圖)를 그려넣고, 그 옆에 팔괘(八卦)를 그렸다. 또 표독립대 동쪽 모퉁이에 크고 높은 바위 위에 수십 척이나 되는 긴 다리를 놓고 한래왕교(閑來往橋)라고 하였으며, 바위를 월굴암(月窟巖), 다리 건너 큰 바위를 천근석(天根石)이라고 불렀다. 2 등록문화재 : 등록문화재구역.
