Man löste dieses Problem in den letzten Jahren dadurch, dass jede Tragfläche an der Hinterkante eine Klappe erhielt, die durch eine mechanische Steuerung (Skizze 1) nach Bedarf den Auftrieb erhöhte. Das funktioniert bei relativ glattem Wasser recht gut, bei Wellengang und höherer Geschwindigkeit jedoch nicht mehr, weil die angehängte Klappe leicht ins flattern kommt. Mit diesem System ist auch nur die Steuerung von Auftrieb möglich, Abtrieb ist nicht vorgesehen. Die Steuerung der "Flughöhe" erfolgt beim.
