Sophomoric Non-sequiturs: December 2007

If P, then Q. P. Therefore you must read this blog. Friday, December 21, 2007. Reviewing, It's a Tough Job, But Someone's Got to Do It. Ah, it's that time again. Time to review submissions for the Pitt CMU grad conference. I have two this year, and upon scanning them, they look far less depressing than the ones I've read in the last two years. But I won't get my hopes up just yet. And so, dear audience of one (two? I ask: Do you think that graduate student submissions to conferences are generally poor?

This blog has moved to http:/ hyperpapeterie.wordpress.com. Friday, June 15, 2007. One thing that has bugged me is the inexplicable indifference to recycling here in Pittsburgh. University buildings and some enlightened establishments often have containers for recycling, but you could walk several miles on the street without ever seeing a bin. The policies for curbside recycling are opaque and obstructionist. It's so bad that I don't even really care about recycling and I'm annoyed by it. The Development...

Had this post continued where it was initially going, it would have booed an Ezra Klein post on drug patents. A corollary to this point is that if you're not willing to link to it, you should probably not talk about it. Over at Pharyngula, PZ Myers posted about Michael Egnor's extremely bad argument. Sophomoric Non-sequiturs: Justification and Knowledge. Two Approaches.
http://verypossiblyfallacious.blogspot.com/2008/01/justification-and-knowledge-two.html
If P, then Q. P. Therefore you must read this blog. Wednesday, January 9, 2008. Justification and Knowledge. Two Approaches. One of the papers I read for the grad conference was on the justification component of knowledge. Second, what is this use of minimally justified good for? If we're going to be deflationists about justification, what do we get? Suddenly every true belief counts as knowledge (as long as it's a "normal" belief). So, what matters now is determining which are the "normal" beliefs&#...
