Woodlands Book Club: Telling stories
http://woodlandsbookclub.blogspot.com/2014/09/telling-stories.html
Books we have read. Drawing inspiration from one of her new book choices,. A thriller written by a collaboration of 20 well known authors, Terry had organized a card storytelling game. We played one round which was great fun, and something that I think we really could develop further. Terry suggested that we invest in the card game she saw at Exclusive Books and we could perhaps play it at a future bookclub. Googling a bit, I found this on the internet - Storymatic. As usual we chatted and ate,. May book...

Woodlands Book Club: Fun with serial murders and sexual deviants
http://woodlandsbookclub.blogspot.com/2010/04/fun-with-serial-murders-and-sexual.html
Books we have read. Fun with serial murders and sexual deviants. I have just finished reading. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. By Stieg Larsson (originally called. Män som hatar kvinnor. Or The Man who hated women). Best of all for me was the thoroughly satisfactory ending. The baddies all got thoroughly whipped, the murder was, after a fashion, solved, (oh sorry, but didn’t you think it would be? Just a matter of who done it? And the goodies are poised for the next episode,. Woodland book no 2222, Terry.

Woodlands Book Club: Musical interlude
http://woodlandsbookclub.blogspot.com/2015/03/musical-interlude.html
Books we have read. Thanks Alison for a great musical evening with Leon and Zoë. Leon led us all on a wonderful musical adventure through a myriad of different instruments - and we even had a chance to drum. We must have been a far cry from his usual bunch of happy and enthusiastic kids, but we had a great evening. The delicate bird flutes brought to mind the quirky book Birds without wings. Thanks too for the delicious cake and other eats. And, almost forgot, the books. A great selection. 2624 Fordsburg...

Woodlands Book Club: Man Booker goes global in Africa
http://woodlandsbookclub.blogspot.com/2015/07/man-booker-goes-global.html
Books we have read. Man Booker goes global in Africa. At Terry's bookclub last month, Sue and Bev gave an interesting talk on the Man Booker International Prize. And the presence of some of the #RhodesMustFall protesters apparently enhanced the discussion of the meaning of "global" and "international" literature. http://woodlandsbookclub.blogspot.com/2009/09/this-is-most-interesting-book.html
Books we have read. Clicko, the Wild Dancing Bushman. This is a most interesting book. I hadn’t heard anything about it, but happened to notice it on the rather exciting little “indigenous books” middle table in the Kirstenbosch Bookshop and it turned out to be a real gem. Ever since seeing Pippa Skotnes’s exhibition “Miscast” at the SA National Gallery and reading Sue’s book choice on the Bleek/Lloyd interviews of! Woodlands Book Club: Fitting in
http://woodlandsbookclub.blogspot.com/2008/12/whip-through-few-books.html
Books we have read. This interesting, well written book is a ‘coming of age’ narrative of two young South African girls: Ofilwe. From a comfortably-off middle class family in a ‘leafy’ suburb of Johannesburg, and the sassy, township-bred Fiks. Without their knowing it, their lives intersect and their aspirations and expectations are contrasted. Both these young girls are experiencing an awakening awareness of their role in the ‘emerging black middle class’ society of South Africa. Fiks. That she voices t...

Books we have read. A literary quiz, chocolate and exciting books. Thanks Sue for hosting the January bookclub.
