I heart post: May 2013
http://iheartpost.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Thursday, 9 May 2013. It has been a little while and I have missed you! I have wanted to share this wonderful package that I received from João. In Brazil for ages - but it has taken me a little while to get my act into gear. First of all - let's appreciate the gorgeous envelope. How cool is it that there is a special postmark that matches the stamps? Aren't these stamps wonderful? They feature bookplates AND a world map. Two of my favourite things! Of course, traditional philatelists would be horrified ...

Sunday, 30 December 2012. 2012: The Year that Was. As 2012 draws to a close it is very tempting to do a bit of reflection on the year that was. So please excuse me while I indulge in some trips down memory lane. Started a blog (this one! And rediscovered the joys of post;. Said goodbye to my lovely Grandpa. Decided that I liked First Day Covers very much;. Hung out in Indonesia. And in between I also:. Had some very fun times at work with the gang. Said goodbye to Glenholme. Lots more fun times, I hope&#...

I heart post: Greetings from Gazipaşa
http://iheartpost.blogspot.com/2013/06/greetings-from-gazipasa.html
Monday, 24 June 2013. Greetings from Gazipaşa, Turkey. I find myself here embarking on an adventure much dreamed about: an Indiana Jones-esque escapade digging up an ancient Roman city by the mediterranean coast in modern-day southern Turkey. It is pretty awesome. Getting a site tour. Inside the outer bath-house. Part of the colonnaded street. A road sign in Latin. Mary Ann and I standing in the middle of our trench pre-excavation. You can't really beat that, right? 24 June 2013 at 03:08. I cant wait to ...

Once upon a time in...: April 2013

Once upon a time in. Saturday, April 27, 2013. What art thou Faustus, but a man condemned to die? I always feel a sense of accomplishment when I visit a place that has a history of more than one writer. When I researched Canterbury, I discovered that this incredible cathedral city had a lot more to it than I originally thought. My discovery was kind of like a coup for me. Of course I needed to do a little more work for this entry, but the rest was much closer to home. His name is everywhere in Canterbury.

Once upon a time in. Sunday, May 26, 2013. Out of all everything that I’ve ever wanted in life, near the top of the list would be my own private library. It might sound cliché to you, but to me, this is paradise. A compilation of Eleanor Farjeon's favourites. After World War I, Farjeon earned a living as a poet and if you don’t think you know any of her work then think again. Eleanor Farjeon is responsible for the lyrics to the Hymn Morning has Broken. The correct title of the poem is ‘A Mornin...She kne...

Once upon a time in. Saturday, June 29, 2013. For truth is always strange; stranger than fiction. In 1788 London, a child was born to Captain John Byron and Catherine Gordon, the captain’s second wife. This child would grow up to be not just a poet, but a key writer in the Romantic Movement which was around 1800-1850. Plaque depicting where Byron was born - now John Lewis. Department store Bond Street London. Nobody could make this stuff up; you’d fry your brain trying. The kind of man that would pluck a...

Monday, 30 September 2013. A Tale of Two Apple Cakes. Rafa has recently become happy to be in his pram - two weeks ago when we went out with him in it he just wailed ‘I’M ABANDONED, I’M ABANDONED,I’M ABANDONED! 8217; - not relaxing. It is lovely to carry him in his sling, but my back appreciates the break - so on Saturday morning with the weather still lovely in Edinburgh it was a pleasure to linger at the Cramond estuary after the husband did the parkrun. Edinburgh Park Run - Cramond, September 2013.
flamingo rover: The Cut-Outs
http://flamingorover.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-cut-outs.html
Wednesday, 30 July 2014. The Matisse exhibition in London has been tantalisingly near, yet far all summer. Yes it is only four and a half hours on the train from Edinburgh, yes I am on maternity leave and my time is my own. But somehow the no's have stacked up against it in my mind. After four and a bit months living out of suitcases home. Rover mum and Rafa at North Berwick, Scotland 2014. Henri Matisse The Cut-Outs. In the My Trash. Matisse, and his colours lure me around corners through the labyrinth ...

Monday, 29 December 2014. A day can take you a lot of places, even when you don't really go anywhere at all. Today at the bus stop I was reading a library book my husband picked out for me. Love with a Chance of Drowning. Cover for Love with a Chance of Drowning. The grandmother asked me my sons name and when I told her she said: 'Raphael, we know Raphael don't we Katie.'. The grandma and I smiled over the coincidence of meeting in this way and agreed that we do indeed live in a village. After the scan w...
flamingo rover: The end of innocently ignorant hippo loving days
http://flamingorover.blogspot.com/2011/06/end-of-innocently-ignorant-hippo-loving.html
Friday, 10 June 2011. The end of innocently ignorant hippo loving days. On the first day out of town and on safari at the Lake Manyara National Park we see Hippos keeping themselves cool in fresh water pools. Only their stepping stone like backs and the tips of ears emerge from the water. Only it turns out that I have never given that much thought to what ‘hippo things’ might actually entail. It was not until day three of our safari that I discovered the dirty truth about the Hippopotamus. The first surp...
flamingo rover: Bath Time
http://flamingorover.blogspot.com/2015/03/bath-time.html
Wednesday, 25 March 2015. This pregnancy has seen me take many baths. Resting, with the weight taken off for a little while has been helping me get through my busy days. The bath was one of my pre-requisits when we were flat hunting: No bath = No deal. I enjoyed my first few chips and then I heard a cry that could only be Rafa's coming from the base of the stairwell. My son sounded like he was in considerable distress. I ate another chip – not enjoying it quite so much. The wailing got ...I did have all ...

Monday, 15 June 2015. A large, impressive house. In May we welcomed baby Finn into our home. With our nuclear family up to four, and our post baby support team swelling the bodies in our two bedroom flat to six, I have been imagining what life might be like if we lived in a slightly larger house. In my imaginary mansion I would have a sewing room in a turret,. And a writing room in another turret. I would have at least one sound proofed room. I would have a cleaner. Tenement kitchen and Rafa, Edinburgh.

I (Heart) Harry Potter
I (Heart) Harry Potter. Friday, February 16, 2007. Harry Potter Visits Parents' Home, Bill and Fleur To Marry. Ron Weasley and Herione Granger plan to accompany Harry Potter to his parents' home at Godric's Hollow. Or what's left of it. Apparently He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named did quite a number on it with his green light bomb. Or do they think that, at this point, Harry really is the only one who has any business confronting Voldemort? Wednesday, February 14, 2007. Harry Potter Loses Dumbledore's Protection.
