Stories from Around the Victoria Falls
November | 2009 | Images from the Interior
https://imagesfromtheinterior.wordpress.com/2009/11
Images from the Interior. November 24, 2009. 8212; Gill @ 4:05 am. Mudumu National Park is a little-known park on the edge of the Kwando River in the Caprivi Strip, Namibia. It was raining off and on when I visited in November. The bush was very green; some roads were muddy. Now, in 2009, the animals are still a bit thin on the ground, but are visible and, even though the bush was thick, we did see a variety of birds and animals. The Park borders the Kwando River for about 15 km. Our camp in the park was...

Images from the Interior. May 9, 2010. Cobweb Catchers and Rain. 8212; Gill @ 5:45 am. We were at Bumi Hills on Lake Kariba, Zimbabwe. So, what did we do? Sundowners on the beach below the lodge was a relaxing affair. The sun set and filled the sky and the clouds with a blaze of colour. The log fire crackled in front of us and conversation and beer flowed. A perfect end to a day dominated by the whims of the weather. Africa is like that full of the unexpected that’s why we love it so much. May 1, 2010.

Images from the Interior. April 23, 2010. Touring Round Jao Camp. 8212; Gill @ 9:10 am. His first story was about how the local people eat the papyrus stems by tearing off the outer layer and munching the inside. We ate some; it wasn’t very tasty. He also told us that when on a fishing trip, the men did the netting while the women and children took to the croc-infested water to harvest the tubers of the waterlilies. I think we shall have to report them to human rights. The following day started off wet; ...

Images from the Interior. March 28, 2010. Savute Channel Full Again. 8212; Gill @ 6:53 pm. So when we arrived at Savute I was quite surprised to see a river. I was told that the Savute Channel had filled up in 2009 and had remained full during the dry season. Now, after the local rain in 2010, the water in the Channel was still high. Much has altered this landscape in the past and it is difficult to explain in but a few sentences. The fact that changes are still occurring as the earth continues to ru...

Images from the Interior. January 25, 2010. 8212; Gill @ 1:04 pm. There are estimated to be only 3,000 Painted Dogs left on the African continent. This number is less than the number of white rhinos. A hundred years ago there were 500,000 painted dogs roaming Africa. This decline is a shocking indictment of the way the African environment is being destroyed. The Painted Dog Conservation has set up a sanctuary near Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe, in order to try to help these beautiful animals. Agai...

Images from the Interior. June 24, 2010. 8212; Gill @ 4:05 pm. The river has been high this year and I could see where the water had reached into the lodge. Fortunately, the builders had been clever and all the decks and rooms were above the water level some good planning went on there. But underneath many of the decks the water lapped against the foundations. When are we going to find a way of getting around this situation so that we can promote tourism between our two countries? The Matetsi area is a s...
