Inaka Home: Surprise Visitor
http://inakahome.blogspot.com/2009/10/surprise-visitor.html
Thursday, 1 October 2009. As we were all loitering about in the house and garden, we were suddenly greeted by Kobayashi-san, the 79 Year old builder who thatched our roof last Year. Later we talked business - envisaged future projects and improvements. However, when it came down to details, I let junior handle it. Perhaps he will be a lawyer when he grows up, or is he giving architectural instructions? That is the coolest picture! What is Sean-kun writing with that big pen? 15 November 2009 at 20:20.

Inaka Home: August 2008
http://inakahome.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, 24 August 2008. Shoji and - again - mud walls. Tomo spent the week at the house doing paper work, and checking the kitchen progress while his two kids collected insects and frogs. He also managed to use these exquisite artist's washi (=Japanese paper), for our Shoji. This one is blue, but we have the other side in green. He passed the baton on to me, and I went again at my normal occupation - the preparation, application and finishing of mud-walls (again! The two bedrooms are now ready for action...

Inaka Home: Surprise: Thatching already started!
http://inakahome.blogspot.com/2008/05/surprise-thatching-already-started.html
Monday, 12 May 2008. Surprise: Thatching already started! I received a surprise call from our carpenter. He informed me that Kobayashi-san, the thatcher had already started to work on the roof without telling us! So immediately I organised a car and drove up to the house, equipped with photo and video. Luckily I had a chance to capture some finishing steps of fixing the roof. 2 Ready your tools. Kobayashi-san has cable for fixing the straw bushels, as well as a long bamboo needle with him. I am the Presi...

Inaka Home: April 2009
http://inakahome.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Sunday, 26 April 2009. Talking to the village chief the other day, I heard that people here in Arisaka get frequent visits from herds of deer. They come down from the forest, to forage and it seems they are not too scared of humans. Locals don't enjoy them too much - they make dirt on the streets and eat produce from the fields. According to him, other wildlife also includes Tanuki (Japanese badger, Bears (very occasionally) but fortunately no monkeys. Bigger kids will also find a Basketball Court here, ...

Inaka Home: December 2008
http://inakahome.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
Monday, 1 December 2008. Ardent readers will remember our summer guests going bonkers at the nearby waterfall. We revisited the place this weekend. Leaves are already past prime. A steep rock face lines the path; it takes about 10 minutes to walk up. I will come back to see it frozen. Wildlife is nice. As long as it behaves reasonable. Unfortunately one inconsiderate specimen - and honestly speaking a rather foolish one - decided he doesn't like our house. This lady runs the place:. Travelling a bit high...

Inaka Home: Long Absence, and a busy season
http://inakahome.blogspot.com/2009/10/long-absence-and-busy-season.html
Thursday, 1 October 2009. Long Absence, and a busy season. Hi, this is the first post for a long time. I am happy to say one of the reasons for the long break was a high occupancy of our Arisaka house, so that I had not many opportunities to visit it myself. But this is great for us, and I think we have won many new friends to Inaka Home. Please let me share some feedback from guests. Paola and Jonathan Mannaro:. We found the kitchen to be very well equipped, and absolutely nothing. As I say, we all real...
