La Peine Forte et Dure: July 2006
http://indigentdefense.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
La Peine Forte et Dure. A Public Defender's Journal. Monday, July 31, 2006. I tried a domestic violence case today. I was pretty sure that it would be a long, uphill battle. My guy was accused of fighting his dad. We had some things going for us, though, and it was a triable case. The thing is, I told the prosecutor, prior to trial, that if my client got convicted, he'd end up doing a year. Go figure. Posted by swd at 10:14 PM. Tuesday, July 25, 2006. Posted by swd at 6:57 PM. i heart public defense: October 2006

Tuesday, October 31, 2006. I have no room in my heart for vengeance". Currently listening to: A Dying Sailor to his Shipmates - Rogue's Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs, and Chanteys. In the mornings, after my bike ride to school, I have a big breakfast in the student lounge, a smallish room with a TV. Usually I read the NY Times but this morning it hadn’t yet arrived, so I turned on the TV. This was around 8:00am. I didn’t leave till well after 9:30. The reason for this was Link TVs. Also: Governor Ry...

La Peine Forte et Dure: March 2006
http://indigentdefense.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
La Peine Forte et Dure. A Public Defender's Journal. Saturday, March 18, 2006. I forget to mention, an event from last week. In my last job, I worked for a couple of guys who are well-established in the South Metro area. One has been practicing for more than two decades and has a sterling reputation. Because I had worked at the Federal Court of Appeals before coming to work for him, he asked that I help him write an appeal. Which I did. And then I went to court on Wednesday to represent the inmates.

A Blues Like Down Home. Lawyer: An individual whose principal role is to protect his clients from others of his profession."-Anonymous. Tuesday, October 9, 2007. It only took two and half years. But I finally got it! Anyhow, not this time! In my opinion, (which of course. Carries great weight with all of me, myself and I) the case (alleged domestic assault) never should've. Been charged and I wasted no time telling the prosecutor that and of course. Needless to say that didn't go over too well. Now being...

La Peine Forte et Dure. A Public Defender's Journal. Wednesday, December 28, 2005. The beginning of the cycle. And then, I'll set appointments for all of my folks to come in, and I'll listen to their stories, and I won't believe that the prosecutor actually buys the cop's story. I will be aching to try the case, so I can prove I was right to the prosecutor. Posted by swd at 12:20 AM. Wednesday, December 21, 2005. All in a day's work. Instead of coming from the left, it turns out that the decedent's vehic...
