HCI as “Core” or “Relation”? | Interaction Culture
https://interactionculture.wordpress.com/2014/05/26/hci-as-core-or-relation
A blog by Jeffrey Bardzell. An Erotics of Research. Research Through Design: A Humanistic Conception →. HCI as “Core” or “Relation”? May 26, 2014. I write this blog post in response to a blog post published a week ago called “ A Growing Problem in HCI Research. 8221; written by my colleague Erik Stolterman. So Stolterman appears to be making two related claims:. HCI can and should have a “core,” and any research that calls itself “HCI” should speak to it in some sense. But regardless of what candidates h...

A blog by Jeffrey Bardzell. The Logic of Foucault’s “Author Function” →. Study of Film and HCI. January 28, 2013. Periodically I post something on my course blog, Interaction Culture Class. That might be of broader interest than just the class. In such situations, I repost them on my personal blog. This is one such example, and its original post can be found here. I mentioned during class today that HCI luminary Elizabeth Churchill had an interesting post on Facebook earlier today. Here is the quote:.
Ethnography in Industry: Notes from EPIC2007 | Interaction Culture
https://interactionculture.wordpress.com/2007/10/05/ethnography-in-industry-notes-from-epic2007
A blog by Jeffrey Bardzell. Really poor liveblog from 10-2-07 →. Ethnography in Industry: Notes from EPIC2007. October 5, 2007. The upshot of this is that the problems were quite grounded in contemporary business practices and problems. A sampling of some of the issues around which ethnography was used to improve understanding include the following:. Sales pipeline management (IBM). Mailing out 38,000 individual retirement packages in 7 days (XEROX). How do they justify their work both intellectually (me...

TechneCosmos: Releasing From Your Chains!
http://evren-technecosmos.blogspot.com/2007/10/releasing-from-your-chains-with-nline.html
Monday, October 29, 2007. Releasing From Your Chains! Moreover this ensures the quality, since you don't just say the ideas which come to your mind. You think twice. When you write, you have the chance to see your mind on 'paper', so check it and correct it; then of course distribute it in order to share with the others! So, release from your chains! Do not become a slave of a traditional discourse or web 1.0! Hi cosmos, interesting blog. October 29, 2007 at 2:32 PM. December 3, 2007 at 12:00 PM.

My musings about Human Computer Interaction. Archive for November, 2009. Jakob Nielson’s take on intuition. Posted by Jenny in Uncategorized. I subscribe to Jakob Nielson’s Alertbox. Today’s email contained an ‘extra’ article that I found very interesting. While all of his Alertbox articles are online and can be found at his website, the twice-monthly email usually contains some other information that is not included in the Alertbox article. One of my biggest pet peeves is cell phone use while driving.

My musings about Human Computer Interaction. Laquo; Follow-up to “Women are damned if they do, damned if they don’t”. Stand up and Speak Out! Posted July 6, 2009 by Jenny in Rant. I recently wrote about the display board outside our office. On which I post inspirational UX and usability quotes. Shortly after I published that post, I discovered that someone had scrawled “waste of time” and “waste of money” on some of the peices of paper I had posted on the board. And, just today, usability guru Jakob Niel...

My musings about Human Computer Interaction. Archive for July, 2009. Stand up and Speak Out! Posted by Jenny in Gender and Computerization. I’m constantly scouring the ‘net for UX resources. One of the tools I use is Twitter. Several UX practitioners tweet daily with links to UX-related articles, studies, and even humor. I was appalled that someone tweeting in a professional manner would promote the sexual objectification of women. Was shocking to me. NOTE: I do not believe that all white males who work ...

TechneCosmos: Immediacy & Hypermediacy of Windows
http://evren-technecosmos.blogspot.com/2008/02/immediacy-vs-hypermediacy-of-windows.html
Thursday, February 21, 2008. Immediacy and Hypermediacy of Windows. Windows, as an operating system has been very successful that the rivals of it, still are using the similar designs in their systems. The design of the interfaces, menus, toolbars, dialog boxes, buttons, etc, everything is based upon the shape of windows, very simple and no place for multiple interpretations. I think the immediacy of the medium comes from this simple idea. What about the hypermediacy? November 11, 2008 at 11:29 AM. The M...

A blog by Jeffrey Bardzell. The “Knowledge as a By-Product of Artistic Practice is Still Not Research” Objection to My “Criterial Knowledge” Post. July 7, 2015. I spoke to some colleagues about my earlier post, The Criterial Knowledge Argument for Research Through Design. Who are themselves experts in research through design [ EDIT.
