Intermittent Review of Sociology. Thoughts on the experience of graduate school that never really fit into a class paper. April 12, 2014. Intermittent Review of Sociology. Thoughts on the experience of graduate school that never really fit into a class paper. High Noon of the 2000s. February 18, 2013. Having described what does. Define High Noon of the 2000s, I should turn my attention to what does exemplify the period. There is no better way to do this than to introduce the man who personifies High Noon of the 2000s better than anyone else – Kevin Federline. Now I know what you’re thinking – “Kevin Federline? From his 2006 debut album.

One of the grocery stores in town has a small sign at each of its checkouts that reads If you’re lucky enough to look under 27, please have your ID ready! The language of the sign always grabs my attention. If you’re lucky. Than we actually are. Why are good looks typically associated with youthfulness? It ca...

Examining Our Busyness | Ma'at

https://maatsem.wordpress.com/2012/09/18/examining-our-busyness

Inquiries of Truth, Balance and Order. September 18, 2012. After I declined a friend’s invitation recently, she replied, I’m happy to hear that you are so busy, but I’m curious what is it that is keeping you so tied up? Have I also inadvertently been proclaiming my own self-importance? Have I not albeit unintentionally been implying that others are not busy or that my time is clearly more valuable? Apparently, I’m not alone in my frenzy or in my ambivalence about it. In his popular June 30. Yet, and this...

https://maatsem.wordpress.com/2012/09/11/reflections-on-the-time-bind

Inquiries of Truth, Balance and Order. September 11, 2012. Reflections on The Time Bind. A potentially powerful insight. One that, despite the book’s numerous citations within the work-family literature, has not yet been seriously pursued by work-family scholars. Regardless, it seems a worthwhile venture to explore the potential implications of her argument. The placement of care within the market, in and of itself, is alarming. As Hochschild has noted in her other work. The extent to which jobs consume ...

Does choice mean the same thing to everyone? | Ma'at

https://maatsem.wordpress.com/2012/09/04/does-choice-mean-the-same-thing-to-everyone

Inquiries of Truth, Balance and Order. September 4, 2012. Does choice mean the same thing to everyone? Listening to Rush Limbaugh’s discussion of Paul Ryan’s Medicare plan a few weeks ago, I was amazed by the extent to which he lauded the plan’s provision of greater choice for Americans. Intrigued, I decided to take a look at the transcript. Mitt Romney, in his speech. Focused on choice within one particular area of policy reform, proclaiming, when it comes to the school your child will attend, every par...

It is not surprising, then, that when researchers Andrea Press and Elizabeth Cole interviewed women about their views on abortion, they found that both pro-life and pro-choice advocates referred to the authority of science to back their beliefs. Conversations for the academically minded. Why the fifth floor? The Ed. Dept. Friday Five: Past, Present, Future. September 27, 2014. Middot; by A. Bloomberg. The temporal is in everything. The intersections of past, present, and future have got us thinking this week. From the modern day dustbowl to how future generations will look back on our “new” technologies, here on the fifth floor we are looking forward and backward and wondering if we have really come as far as we thought? Intermittent Reinforcements

Monday, August 3, 2015. Rumble in the Desert. We rolled for the mission and got a defensive mission but I asked for a reroll (what is the point of all those motorcycles if you are just going to dismount and dig in) so we ended up with Free for All. In a fit of common sense I dismounted my MGs and AT guns and put them in the town on the left hand side to protect that objective and then spread out the rest of my force with the smaller motorcyle platoon and the howitzers protecting the other objective.

Intermittent Ruminations

My haphazard, unplanned, intermittent, and purposeless meditations on my life and other such minutia. Sunday, April 26, 2015. This week I have felt particularly introverted. I ran across an article, " 12 Things Every Introvert Wishes You Understood". That accurately describes how I feel as an introvert. Number 7, "or stuck up, for that matter", was a big issue I had while working in full service veterinary practice, while dealing with clients. Sunday, April 19, 2015. No one can stop you. James A.
