X-pat Files From Overseas. Sunday, November 22, 2009. Don't breath on me! Everyone in my school is some state of the verb sick, as in, was sick, is sick , or will be sick. No kidding. Kids come to my lesson a) feeling sick b) having been sick or c) imagining being sick. 171; Why did you come back to school if you were sick? News is so sensatio...

DrieCulturen: Providing children with tools to tell their stories
http://drieculturen.blogspot.com/2015/04/providing-children-with-tools-to-tell.html
All about kids growing up in other cultures. Third culture kids. Expat kids. Refugee kids. Immigrant kids. Sunday, 26 April 2015. Providing children with tools to tell their stories. My inspiration today is an amazing post by Eric Spreng, an international school teacher at the International School of Ouagadougou (the capital of Burkina Faso). I wish there were more international school teachers like him. I wish I had teachers like him when I grew up in Africa. Photo by DrieCulturen, taken at Schiphol.

X-pat Files From Overseas. Sunday, February 21, 2010. In theory, teaching looks like the ideal job. All those school holidays. In Europe, every six weeks we have vacation. We even shut down for the week long ski break to hit the slopes. But there is no escape. Even on mountaintops, teachers obsess about how to reach kids. For today’s students, conditioned by instant gratification in a society wired 24/7, attention spans last no longer than 15 seconds, the time it takes to microwave a muffin. Getting kids...

X-pat Files From Overseas. Monday, September 20, 2010. Back to School in the 21st Century. In the 1930’s my grandma started her teaching day by shoveling a snow covered path to a one-room schoolhouse and splitting wood for the potbellied stove. Whereas teachers once caught cheaters red handed copying from a neighbors’ papers, now students take information word for word from the Internet and swear it’s not plagiarism because they got it off Wikipedia. As soon as new tools like Turn-It In a...Text messagin...

X-pat Files From Overseas: Snow Storms Leaves Passengers Stranded in Europe, Including Me!
http://pat-pattymac.blogspot.com/2010/12/snow-storms-leave-passengers-stranded.html
X-pat Files From Overseas. Saturday, December 18, 2010. Snow Storms Leaves Passengers Stranded in Europe, Including Me! Well, that was an interesting voyage. Round trip to nowhere. We left the house before daybreak and ten hours later, returned home in the dark again. We never left the airport, yet felt like we’d travelled for weeks. Since most European countries lack heavy snow removal equipment even a couple, little snowflakes creates huge havoc on the entire continent. Lechault's snowed in at home.
