In the last few weeks of the autumn term the 1st year students have been looking at leaf litter from both oak and Japanese knot weed. The students use both high powered and low powered microscopes to look at the micro fauna. ID sheets are provided and tally of animals found is made. We can then make comparisons of biodiversity in the oak and Japanese knot weed litter.

The past week our 3rd year international wildlife, biology and natural history students have been out on the mountain side in trefforest small mammal trapping for their capture mark recapture study. The study has been running for 12 years and this year we had a record number of 70 students! Surprisingly there were two incidences of both a bank vole and a wood mouse in one trap!

Clay Wilson passed away after an extended battle with pancreatitis. Wildlife has lost a steadfast advocate and world class veterinarian. The world will miss Dr Clay, especially wildlife.
