Thoughts, observations and stories about our new adventure, translated by the odd microscope of my mind. Thursday, October 30, 2014. If at first you don't succeed, try try again! Also try not to bang your head against the wall too much). G ordered a beautiful recurve bow! The mice found it the very first night, and chewed a hole in the lid. #$%! I put a live trap in there one nice and caught about 15 in one go. Winston has some fancy new aluminum egg bar shoes, and seems to be feeling better already....

Ruminations: April 2015
http://salvagewoodacres.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Thoughts, observations and stories about our new adventure, translated by the odd microscope of my mind. Thursday, April 30, 2015. Spring toys and fall plans. Good news, our fly predators arrived today! On the east side of the house I've been battling some sedges that spread through deep tough rhizomes, and it's not such a pleasant task. The Creature was fun to use, a good workout, and got it done. A few minutes of clearing the sedges out and the bed is almost ready for our echinacea transplants. Very ex...

http://salvagewoodacres.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Thoughts, observations and stories about our new adventure, translated by the odd microscope of my mind. Sunday, July 26, 2015. Treating for unknowns. Work on the house. Storms, the good the bad and the spicy. Hen surgery. We've always noticed that our wethers Prince and Henry have seemed itchy. Not really that surprising when they are in full fleece, but we started to pay more attention when more of the flock started doing it. She normally send me a photo or two during the process. We have had quite the...

Ruminations: November 2014
http://salvagewoodacres.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Thoughts, observations and stories about our new adventure, translated by the odd microscope of my mind. Saturday, November 29, 2014. The Bear, the Owl and the Hibernation of my Confidence. It's been another cold week. I'm really just losing track of the days to be honest. After the first blast of winter and -17 to -20C temperatures we had a west coast-like day of 7 C. Most of the snow sublimed and the entire farm was blanketed in fog. What a relief to work in that! The funny thing with the bear when he'...

Thoughts, observations and stories about our new adventure, translated by the odd microscope of my mind. Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Sometimes in this Country. Your daily neo folk bluegrass. I hope at least some of you have a listen to all these songs I've been posting! I have so much to catch up on writing- perhaps later when it's approaching 30 C again I will be driven indoors to get on it. That or the mountains of laundry, chook dishes, or house cleaning. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). So weve had ou...

Thoughts, observations and stories about our new adventure, translated by the odd microscope of my mind. Thursday, September 25, 2014. Artisans are engineers too- this is super cool! G is buying me a spinning wheel for our four year wedding anniversary next week. I'm super excited! I'd never heard of a hackle before- what a brilliant but simple design. Turn up your speakers! Alpaca, mohair, merino, silk. Who'd want to buy a Walmart scarf when you could make one out of this? This is one cool grandma.

Ruminations: February 2015
http://salvagewoodacres.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Thoughts, observations and stories about our new adventure, translated by the odd microscope of my mind. Friday, February 27, 2015. Flock introduction. Friday night on the farm. Weekend. As I'm typing this little Kitten the house bantam is preening beside me, and just now has jumped on to my arm, a signal that she wants to cuddle and settle in under my arm. Like I've said before, when a creature (wild or domestic) seeks your company, I think it's pretty special. Wednesday, February 25, 2015. I have erran...

http://salvagewoodacres.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Thoughts, observations and stories about our new adventure, translated by the odd microscope of my mind. Tuesday, March 31, 2015. On the agenda for the weekend just past, was to hook up the electronetting. I can't have the two roosters escaping and then finding their way over to Mr. Flan in the backyard. We already know that Flan can kill. Winny is getting his sheath infection treated with mastitis cream (a bovine product! It turns out that we have quite a bit of clay in that area of the property, so I t...
