The photo below, c.1895, shows the extant of the commercial activity of the mill operations in the late 19th century.The railroad which came to the village in 1884 was extended to the mill in 1899 to accomodate loading the immense amount of timber which was being shipped out of the village. With its origins dating to 1853, the property has been a vital part of Iola ever since. The mill ceased operations in 1961 and in 1963 was turned into a museum of local history and mill operations.
