The Comfortable Desk: Books
http://thecomfortabledesk.blogspot.com/p/books.html
I take people very seriously. People are all I take seriously, in fact. Therefore, I have nothing but sympathy for how people behave - and nothing but laughter to console them with. Second, reading is an act of interaction, and is always a product of circumstance. The ill disposed will find a satire more appealing than a well-bred optimist. Books that reflect one's sorrow automatically yield greater satisfaction, as any reader can attest. A Thousand Splendid Suns. By T Coraghessan Boyle. From SoHo to Silo.

The Comfortable Desk: Sleep...?
http://thecomfortabledesk.blogspot.com/2010/06/sleep.html
Monday, June 28, 2010. There are some nights that pass normally. I hop in bed, slip under the blankets, rest my head on the pillow (preferably face down), and drift into the phantasmagorical rest of dreamland. But this did not happen last night. I've never pulled an all-nighter. I've never slept for less than three hours. I've never watched the sun rise in the morning. Or heard Iowa City come to life, the brass of the streets grow louder as the hours inch by. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Comfortable Desk: Iowa City
http://thecomfortabledesk.blogspot.com/2010/06/iowa-city.html
Saturday, June 26, 2010. Today was my first opportunity to explore Iowa City as a city rather than a tourist attraction. I walked the streets to the farmer's market with a camera strapped to my wrist, and I stopped to take pictures of the arched fountain, the public library, and the flowers in baskets and bushes. The photography reminded me of the skills I learned from the Democrat and Chronicle. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Picture Pages Picture Pages! From SoHo to Silo.

The Comfortable Desk: Party Games
http://thecomfortabledesk.blogspot.com/2010/06/party-games.html
Sunday, June 27, 2010. As the name implies, party games involve a mass of people and are new-player-friendly. The two we played were "ninja" and "bunny.". Ninja involves quick reflexes as players attempt to chop at each others' hands. Playing order proceeds clockwise, and the person with the turn can make one motion, either to hit someone's hand and knock the player out, or draw back into a safer position. Other players can make one defensive motion to avoid the player with the move. From SoHo to Silo.

The Comfortable Desk: August 2010
http://thecomfortabledesk.blogspot.com/2010_08_01_archive.html
Tuesday, August 3, 2010. Heat The everywhere sticky touch of heat. Popsicles melting and melting, skin melting like popsicles, like the queso at the gourmet Mexican restaurant we ate at for a bill of $72.47, including the tip. La cuenta, por favor. The door slammed. A twig of a man approached us. He was black. He saw my dad and spoke to him in rapid, incomprehensible English. Can't help you here. You need to go to the boatem. My dad said. "We need a taxi to go to our hotel. Can you drive us? But sir," my...

The Comfortable Desk: Iowa City Pictures
http://thecomfortabledesk.blogspot.com/2010/06/iowa-city-pictures.html
Saturday, June 26, 2010. On a mission to begin a blog about Iowa City, our IYWS (Iowa Young Writers' Studio) dunk tank for blogging embarked on a perilous mission: to take pictures of the city and eavesdrop on its inhabitants. Much of the resulting glory can be found here. More pictures from Iowa City can be found here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Picture Pages Picture Pages!
