Iris G Knits

Monday, April 6, 2009. I apologize heartly to all my visitors and friends, for I have been away from this knitting blog in the past 20 months. I had taken a long and eventful journey in the wide world. How have you been? And I've finally found time to write up the Jellyfish shrug pattern again. The original one got lost when my last hard drive died out appoximately 18 months ago, so even myself could not find a copy of it. Anyway, Jellyfish now gets back to life and here it is, on Etsy. 6 - The pattern.

Iris G Knits: Indigo Flowers V

http://irisgknits.blogspot.com/2007/08/indigo-flowers-v.html

Friday, August 3, 2007. Click to read about Indigo Flowers. My dear friends and guests, welcome to the show! Here, I give you Indigo Flowers. Undergoing metamorphosis (blocking, that is):. Can you see how joyful the lace is, relaxing in a basin of tepid water? A dollop of rose-scented conditioner leaves a lingering sweet scent on the vest. I know, I should have used orchid or lavender to match the mood of the vest, but I always find rose irresistible. Here are a couple of peeks:. Have kept Indigo Flowers.

Iris G Knits: Lotus Purse Pattern

http://irisgknits.blogspot.com/2007/08/lotus-purse-pattern.html

Monday, August 20, 2007. A drawstring pouch with lotus blossom shaped cables and knotted tassels. The original inspiration comes from the lotus purse, a traditional Chinese pouch. It is usually attached to the belt as a coin purse or a cosmetics bag. Hand stitched, embroidered, and tasseled, it showcases a woman’s needlework skills and reflects her personality. It is therefore a popular keepsake gift between family members and betrothed ones as a token of love. 8226; Cable needle. 8226; Stitch marker.

Iris G Knits: Lotus

http://irisgknits.blogspot.com/2007/08/lotus.html

Saturday, August 11, 2007. A beautiful water plant, lotus quite naturally symbolized important ideas in ancient civilizations. For instance, one of the Egyptian creation myths featured a huge lotus which rose from the infinite ocean of inert water and marked the beginning of time. The sun then rose from inside the lotus. Later, when the Egyptians discovered that lotus flowers open at dawn and close at dusk on a daily basis, they made it a symbol of rebirth in addition to creation and sun. The last four l...

Iris G Knits: Indigo Flowers II

http://irisgknits.blogspot.com/2007/06/indigo-flowers-ii.html

Friday, June 1, 2007. It's the weather. High temperature and high humidity had successfully prevented me from knitting anything for the past ten days. Instead, I spent my leisure time drawing, sewing, and reading art history books. When I finally picked up the smooth bamboo needles (last night), it was refreshing. The result, my friends, was this piece of Indigo Flowers. Again it is because we are dealing with lace here, we just have to wait and see. Thanks for your comment on my blog regarding the gnome...

Iris G Knits: Indigo Flowers

http://irisgknits.blogspot.com/2007/05/indigo-flowers.html

Friday, May 18, 2007. All right, I confess that no modification has been made on the alpaca mitts. Yet, I have been very busy this week! However, I'm grateful for all the suggestions, and will try lacy/eyelet rib and twisted rib sometime this weekend and report back ;-). Somehow I did find time to disassemble the Calmer. Bolero.pure pleasure. That's for my first project at the CAL. In my stash, and people at the CAL are really cool. Currently I am into the concept of Contrast. Porcelain white and indigo.

Wednesday, October 21, 2009. To-Do Lists, Tiny Huffs of Luxury Fibres, and Me. So yesterday I went to the old LYS. With my friend Anna - we were there to pick out yarn for her convertible mitts/fingerless gloves that were supposed to be her Christmas present last. Year ahem. We looked around and oohed and aahed over various fibres (if you've never touched Kashmir Baby. I also got a hank of Lush. It is so soft and pretty. I want to use it to make Foliage. At least it proves the existence of. Sock (And one of my amazing, adorable kitties! Monday, October 6, 2008. The Epic Garter Saga continues.). I could smash my head against a wall for not thinking of this sooner, but hey, maybe if I write this down instead of self-flagellating, I'll do better next time I have some complex lace to knit. ALWAYS USE A LIFELINE. Here's a Lace knitting FAQ. Halfway down the page are instructions on how to use a lifeline. Right now I'm using dental floss, so the garter might have a minty fresh scent after all is said and done. Swatching: The Final Frontier.

sleep knitting: FO: "Kimono Classic" by Vicki Square

http://sleepknitting.blogspot.com/2010/03/fo-kimono-classic-by-vicki-square.html

Thursday, March 18, 2010. FO: "Kimono Classic" by Vicki Square. Aka, Rachel's Cardigan! The pattern can be found in Ann Budd's " Simple Style. The recommended fibre is Berocco Softwist (a blend of rayon and wool), but working with a limited budget, we decided on "I Love This Yarn" acrylic (the Hobby Lobby house brand). I worked gauge swatches in both the recommended needle size for both the yarn and the pattern (size 8), but went up to 10s to get the drape required. Enough bibbling - now for pics! Intere...

Thursday, August 19, 2010. Etsy Corner: Soap That Makes Scents. Y Corner, I not only have a review of a store, Soap That Makes Scents. But an interview with the owner, Karina! I was hooked on her soaps and unique scent blends from that day on. At the time I started following her store, she was selling bar soap, whipped body souffle, lip balm, and solid perfume. Since then the solid perfume has been discontinued (a lovely product that is sadly misunderstood in these modern times! In the last few months, I...

sleep knitting: Adventures in Lace

http://sleepknitting.blogspot.com/2010/05/adventures-in-lace.html

Tuesday, May 25, 2010. So, it's been a while! This seems to be my blog pattern: I am very gung-ho at the beginning of the year, and I write a lot, happily posting pictures and committing to my documentation, and then around April or May my resolve crumbles (or I simply become distracted by actual knitting) and it slows down or stops entirely. Doesn't make for a very interesting blog to follow! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Fayetteville, Arkansas, United States. Interested in a custom item? Featured...

sleep knitting: Secret Projects & Cardigans

http://sleepknitting.blogspot.com/2010/04/secret-projects-cardigans.html

Monday, April 19, 2010. Secret Projects and Cardigans. I am working on one such project now - it's a secret, but I promise that all will be revealed in due time. but a small taste can be seen to your left! As for cardigans, I've decided it's high time that I learn the art of top-down construction. I've read that it's incredibly easy, relatively speaking, and that the best part is that there's no seams, and you can try on garments as you go. SOLD! And start out with her Easy Top-Down Raglan.

Monday, July 12, 2010. Hats, Hats, and More Hats. When I was a kid, I remember reading " Caps for Sale. In school. I think what I liked most about it was how the man in the story wore all of those hats on his head and they didn't fall off. It must have made an impression because last winter I was wearing three hats at once on any given day! I just can't wait until it's cold enough to merit wearing them - waiting out the summer is going to be tough. Peacock coloured hearts on black background; beanie shape.

It's a very useful reference and one I'm sure I'll use later on - especially as I may have a sweater commission coming down the pipe (a friend wants me to make him a Christmas sweater - it could be absolute comedy gold depending on what direction we take it in, heh)! Update On Late-B'day Project. Monday, August 10, 2009. You Can't Blog When You're Too Busy Knittin'. Looks like a kickass blog. I needed to know how to knit a circle s...
