Evoking a new way of thinking. Key Vocabulary: Reflexive Anticipation. One word of caution: within my understanding of anticipation as always expressed in action, and of anticipatory processes as the unity of deterministic an nondeterministic processes, anticipation is not necessarily successful all the time it can fail." http://epi-thinking.org/SYNECDOCHE.html
Evoking a new way of thinking. Synecdoche is a part of speech. A synecdoche is the use of a part to stand for a whole - e.g. when one refers to a car as "wheels" or implicitly embodies an organization by the interactions with its representative. Key Concepts and Vocabulary.

http://epi-thinking.org/EPIGENESIS.html
Evoking a new way of thinking. Epigenesis is another example of embodied context dependence. Epigenesis refers to the influence of the environment on the expression of the genetic code. Many genes require specific environmental circumstances in order to be expressed; many genes are never expressed. The genetic "program" refers to the potential for initiating and orchestrating specific physiological processes that may ultimately manifest themselves in a trait such as behavior. Carbohydrates, fats, proteins.

http://epi-thinking.org/EMERGENCE.html
Evoking a new way of thinking. Emergence is the way novel and coherent structures, patterns and properties arise out of a multiplicity of relatively simple interactions. It is marked by radical novelty, coherence or correlation, some property of "wholeness", it evolves, and it can be perceived. Adapting to and dealing with emergence is perhaps the most important task facing managers and organizations. Indeed, it is one of the most important cognitive tasks we all face. Key Concepts and Vocabulary.

http://epi-thinking.org/CODES.html
Evoking a new way of thinking. Key Vocabulary: Codes and Cues, Representations and Compressions. When we use representations, labels, categories, and codes we have a tendency to demand coherence (a unity or oneness) between the situation, people, process etc. to which we are applying the representation and our understanding of the meaning of the representation itself. Key Concepts and Vocabulary.

http://epi-thinking.org/ROUNDWORMS.html
Evoking a new way of thinking. In 2011, the New York Times published the first "popular" description of some amazing research into "roundworms." It turns out that despite the mathematical ability to describe and "map" the function of each of the roundworm brain's 302 neurons once the "mapping" was completed it was discovered to be unmappable due to the presence of a "third system" which acted to turn neurons and synapses on and off dependent upon context. The Times article. Why is the wiring diagram.
