Architecture, design, sustainability, food, barcelona, catalunya, and almost everything else. Mies Van de Rohe. The recovery of concrete falls between standard definitions of reuse and recycling: concrete is broken down into aggregates (granular material), generally to be used in road works, but also as aggregates in new concrete. [1]. It is estimated that roughly 25 billion tonnes of concrete are manufactured globally each year, over 3.8 tonnes per person in the world each year. Recycling concrete reduc...

Architecture, design, sustainability, food, barcelona, catalunya, and almost everything else. Mies Van de Rohe. Two Polish architecture students (ryszard rychlicki and agnieszka nowak) have "reinvented" the idea of building as water butt. Whilst this may not be a new idea to those of us living around the Mediterranean, where ingenious methods to harvest rainwater have been used for centuries, it is an interesting proposal, above all given the urban context. Architecture, design, sustainability, food, barcelona, catalunya, and almost everything else. Mies Van de Rohe. Do plants really need soil? No they don't. The soil is merely nothing more than a mechanic(al) support.Only water and the many minerals dissolved in it are essential to plants, together with light and carbon dioxide to conduct photosynthesis. Green Walls and/or Vertical Gardens can also be integrated into a building's air circulation system. Active Green walls are based upon the sciences of...
