Development work and faith. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. Newer posts →. July 11, 2014. Friends invited me to join with them on a day flight to Bamiyan, in the central Hazarajat. We flew over the wonderful Band-i-Amir lakes, copper colouring the water a fantastic blue. We then drove out to Shahar Zohak – the Red City – a very ancient, and large destroyed fort complex, some 2000 ft up a steep climb. The minerals are right in front of you in these hills:. And an old gun. July 9, 2014.

Development work and faith. Skip to primary content. Images of an ending. June 3, 2012. School’s just about over, and so the kids had an Olympics. Immediately following which I flew to Maimana to assist in an evaluation. From 3000ft, the countryside around Faizabad is quite beautiful – if treeless. In Maimana I am looking at the sustainability and management practices of one of our projects, the orthopaedic workshop, and the community based rehabilitation project. I would like this work to grow. Thank yo...

Development work and faith. Skip to primary content. Images from the Palace. November 23, 2011. From within the ruined old palace, the new Parliament takes shape. We climbed a few internal staircases, somewhat hidden away, and there in a roof space was a pile of school books. It was odd. The fallen ceiling. It was quite beautiful, the way it hung, a lattice of plaster and wire. From an upper window. Clearly, someone had been hidden there, sniping at people below. What use is that? The only bright side is...

Development work and faith. Skip to primary content. Darfur in a Mi8. January 31, 2013. We flew to K today, in a very noisy helicopter, and landed beside the helipad. We wore ear muffs all the way, but even so I could hear funny clicking noises that made me nervous. The crew were Russian. Rushing here, rushing there. Let the world read Phil's wondrous words. HoltPress: January 2015
http://holtpress2.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 11, 2015. Sport Boy has returned home safe and sound after a couple of days in Melbourne hanging out with friends and Jordy. After days of unseasonal, though not unexpected, cold wet weather it's been a lovely day, soured only by the headache I've been trying to keep at arm's length all afternoon. It probably started not long after I watched Tottenham inexplicably lose to Crystal Palace! What's the good of beating Chelsea if we turn around and lose to Palace I hear you ask? Last year I se...
HoltPress: Farewell

Sunday, December 01, 2013. Has Winter finally ended? Has Summer actually started? It's hard to tell with this one day to the next weather pattern but it has been a HOT day today. Sleeping tonight may be a challenge. Thank goodness for the overhead fan. I helped her with the move today. I will miss having her around as much and will look forward to her visits, however frequent they are. I am proud of all she's accomplished and the future she is building for herself. More Brilliance or Drivel, You Decide:.

Leading into 2014 when he starts at his new "school", SEDA Surf School based in Torquay. That's right, you heard me correctly! Tuesday, February 18, 2014. The funeral was held at the Salvation Army church in Shepp and I thought it was a lovely service. Dad had written a eulogy for his sister and asked me to deputize for him which I was honoured to do. When I walked in and saw the flowers on the coffin I suddenly remembered he had also asked me to get a bunch of flowers on his behalf! Thankfully there was a florist not far away and I had time to go and get some but.it was Valentine's day! Busiest day on the florist's calendar!
Mustafa Qadri: Shooting back at the settlers
http://mustafaqadri.blogspot.com/2008/06/shooting-back-at-settlers.html
Wednesday, 18 June 2008. Shooting back at the settlers. Has just posted one of my reports on Jewish Settler violence in the occupied West Bank:. As I saw with my own eyes three weeks ago, Susia is now a collection of tents and partially-built structures surrounded on three sides by Israeli settlements and a military outpost. Where once there were 800 families living in Susia, today there are only 26 left. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. National Union of Journalists (UK).

Development work and faith. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. June 15, 2017. It’s five years to the day that we returned to live in Perth. I just realised this tonight. Five years ago, we arrived back here. The last few months, I have been aware in some new ways of the costs of living for so long in a place like Afghanistan. The signs have been there for a while, but it came to the fore late one night, as a heavy truck streamed down the hill past our home. Maybe 2am or 3am? July 29, 2016.
The Itinerant
Friday, June 30, 2006. Someone once suggested that I should take photographs of each visitor and put it up on a soft board with date of arrival/departure etc. I am seriously considering it now. Wasnt there a piece Ruskin Bond once wrote with echoes of similar sentiments? Maybe I should frame that and put it on the wall. Or this. Posted by Itineranting at 8:33 PM. Wednesday, August 03, 2005. Very often I stare. I stare out of the window. I stare at people. I stare at the computer screen. So I have spent a...
