downers: boy books | yoonanimous
https://yoonanimous.com/2013/09/20/book-review-little-house-on-the-prairie
Let go or be dragged. By yoonanimous on September 20, 2013. Now that Finn is reading, our house is littered with chapter books. From what I can tell, the offerings for young male readers fall into one of two camps: 1) mind-numbingly dull or 2) soul-crushingly terrifying. Do not operate heavy machinery while reading. Me: “Tate, what did you say? Did you just say ‘stupid’? Tate: “No mommy.” (Rolling of eyes). “I said DOOPID.”. Point is, I’m done with those crap books. Instead, I’m eager to ...Antiquated ge...

And we got a trainer… | AcademicRunner
https://academicrunner.wordpress.com/2015/06/11/and-we-got-a-trainer
Academia, running, life and everything else. And we got a trainer…. June 11, 2015. So hubby and I decided to get a trainer for our running. We thought it would be nice to have a professional let you know what to do and give you advice on your training. So far, it has been great and we both hope to improve our running technique and times (especially I do! It is so frustrating. We had such a cold winter and now no spring. I can’t wait for it to get better. Larr; Previous Post. Next Post →.

Spring and summer are finally here! | AcademicRunner
https://academicrunner.wordpress.com/2015/05/29/spring-and-summer-are-finally-here
Academia, running, life and everything else. Spring and summer are finally here! May 29, 2015. I can’t believe I didn’t post for such a long time. The academic year is over (yes! And all its pains as well. I have a summer free of teaching and free of the usual academic problems. I have to say though that it has been a tough academic year. Yes, the teaching, yes, the research, (why did I ever think about sending 3 conference proposal one after the other and why did I get accepted for all of them? And then...

weekend of not much | it's probably phd me
https://probablyphdme.com/2015/07/19/weekend-of-not-much
It's probably phd me. But it's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then. L. Carroll. Sunday, 19 July 2015. Weekend of not much. While my week was promising, my weekend was decidedly dull, I’m afraid. Maybe dull isn’t the right word, though: ordinary? For some reason, it felt much more like a semester weekend than a summer weekend, which I suppose speaks to my efforts at actual academic work. Today was me computer at home. I’m ashamed of how long some tasks have been...I prefe...

I don’t even believe my life at this point | it's probably phd me
https://probablyphdme.com/2015/08/12/i-dont-even-believe-my-life-at-this-point
It's probably phd me. But it's no use going back to yesterday, because I was a different person then. L. Carroll. Wednesday, 12 August 2015. I don’t even believe my life at this point. If I’d had a time machine twenty years ago and had jumped forward to see what was happening at this point in my life, I would not have recognized myself. I may look like the same person but I am most decidedly not. This is all just weird. Why didn’t I know this twenty years ago? The Gentleman is very deserving of his name ...

Ferule & Fescue: Scheduled up, scheduled out
http://feruleandfescue.blogspot.com/2016/09/scheduled-up-scheduled-out.html
All higher knowledge in her presence falls/Degraded. Saturday, September 03, 2016. Scheduled up, scheduled out. My teaching schedule is the worst I've had in a decade. Actually, scratch that: the worst thing I can imagine is all of the above at an institution that has a Tuesday/Thursday common hour- a period when no classes are scheduled but alllll. Meetings for university business are. Meaning that, when you have a MWF schedule, you can expect to be on campus four or five days out of five.*. This semest...

Ferule & Fescue: The many stages of self-loathing--I mean, writing
http://feruleandfescue.blogspot.com/2013/10/the-many-stages-of-self-loathing-i-mean.html
All higher knowledge in her presence falls/Degraded. Sunday, October 06, 2013. The many stages of self-loathing- I mean, writing. I'm closing in on the final version of a short commissioned essay. Because it's so short and I've been working on it without interruption for a month or so, I've had the opportunity to think about the discrete stages of my writing process. The major stages look something like this:. At this point, I no longer hate every minute I spend writing, and occasionally have passing mom...
