Jack's In Europe

Tuesday, August 19, 2008. Last Day: Back in London. The train ride through southern France was unbelievable. Every curve brought a staggering new view of tree-lined mountains juxtaposed to deadly precipices of sheer rock. My flight back to the states is tomorrow at 7:30 am, so I will be signing off now. I have enjoyed keeping the blog of Brian and I's trip and I hope those of you who have read some of it have enjoyed it as well. It was an extraordinary experience. Monday, August 18, 2008. Jack's In Europe: Brussels, Belgium

http://www.jacksineurope.blogspot.com/2008/08/brussels.html

Friday, August 15, 2008. We left for Amsterdam on the 14th and decided to say in Brussels, Belgium. For the night, where we had to switch trains. Brussels. We stayed at the Van Gogh Youth Hostel in Brussels which was not too bad, but we had to share the room with two French guys, a German guy and a Turkish guy, who were all a bit odd. Jack's In Europe: Amsterdam, Netherlands

http://www.jacksineurope.blogspot.com/2008/08/amsterdam.html

Friday, August 15, 2008. We got up early this morning in Brussels, packed our bags and headed down to the town square for a Belgian Waffle breakfast. I ordered mine with ice cream and chocolate sauce (apparently not as unusual as it sounds). It was delicious. With all of its canals and historic buildings, Amsterdam has the potential to be a beautiful city, populated by a remarkable number of bicyclers; however, the excessively liberal Netherlands laws regarding narcotics and prostitution attract a notabl...

Jack's In Europe: Geneva: Day 3

http://www.jacksineurope.blogspot.com/2008/08/geneva-day-3.html

Tuesday, August 19, 2008. For our third day in Switzerland, Brian and I hung out around Geneva, tasted the local food, checked out the main shopping streets (watches everywhere), and relaxed lakeside. Remy met us after work near the Geneva train station and we went out for dinner at a fondue restaurant to celebrate our last night of this leg of the trip. I leave for London via Paris on the afternoon of the 19th, Brian will take an overnight train to Venice via Bologna the same night.

Jack's In Europe: London Day 2

http://www.jacksineurope.blogspot.com/2008/08/blog-post.html

Saturday, August 9, 2008. For Day 2 in London, we took the tube downtown and then grabbed the tour bus (ticket is good for 24 hours) and went to the Tower of London. It was an interesting tour, equipped with quite a long history of the English monarchy (mainly a series of rulers torturing people for alternate religious or political beliefs), including the crown jewels (which were a bit anti-climactic). Inside the Tower of London:. View of Tower Bridge from inside the Tower of London:.

O'Briens In Ireland . . . Again. Documenting Jim and Jack O'Brien's return trip to County Galway. Monday, September 15, 2008. Day 3:The Rainy West of County Galway. A quick look out of our window at Lisara House revealed that it would be an extremely wet day. We showered and enjoyed a full Irish breakfast. We drove west on R341 back through Roundstone and then headed northwest up the coast. We then went southeast on R340 toward Carna. 8211; the parish town where my great-grandmother, Honor, and her sibli...

O'Briens In Ireland . . . Again. Documenting Jim and Jack O'Brien's return trip to County Galway. Monday, September 15, 2008. Day 2: Returning to Innishnee. Our first morning in Ireland began with a traditional Irish breakfast. Prepared by Ann: cereal, a fried egg, sausage links, bacon, toast, a tomato, orange juice, coffee and black. Pudding. As we were finishing up, Noel, having worked late the night before, came in for a quick “hello” and “goodbye.”. The extremely detailed, and pricelessly painstaking...

O'Briens In Ireland . . . Again. Documenting Jim and Jack O'Brien's return trip to County Galway. Tuesday, September 16, 2008. Day 5: Looking for Coynes in Rugged Connemara. A day cannot begin any better than today: a hot shower contrasted with the cool sea breeze of Galway Bay creeping in through a cracked window, and an enormous breakfast of overflowing porridge, cinnamon and vanilla French toast, and piping hot black coffee. Apparently we were supposed to meet Joe in Cornamona at 11:30, not at his hou...

The three of us rode up the hill to the cemetery. One of Michael’s dogs faithfully followed the car for the entire half-mile trip. Michael hopped out and quickly navigated through the centuries-old ruins and waist-high ferns,. We stood their for a while, talking with Michael and taking it all in. He told us about the old ...
