Japanese Tools ... when only the best will do: January 2015
http://japanesetools.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Japanese Tools . when only the best will do. Wednesday, January 7, 2015. Such a simple looking knife, such a complicated process! If Jules Verne and Steven Spielberg both put their heads together they couldn't have conceived a scene like the following picture. What would you make with machinery like this - submarines for the Australian Navy? Perhaps this is the office of Hanna Barbara where the Jetsons was produced just after finishing off the Flintstone series! Yep, you're right again. Not far from the ...

Japanese Tools . when only the best will do. Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Making a mortise using a Japanese mortising chisel. The Japanese Mortise Chisel (Tategu) - double layer blade laminated with White Paper steel , has a square cross section that tapers towards the end of the blade. Handles are made from Japanese White Oak. In Japan these are used to make or rework the guides of Japanese sliding doors (shoji) and partition walls. Japanese Tools ... when only the best will do: January 2013

Japanese Tools . when only the best will do. Monday, January 14, 2013. A hot day at Melbourne Zoo. We decided to visit the Zoo in Melbourne on a day when the mercury rose to 41.1deg C. We were among the few that visited on that day. Needless to say we didn't see any Snow Leopards or other cold climate animals - they were inside like we should have been. The Japanese garden within the Zoo grounds had to bear the heat the best it could. Barry and Judy Jackson. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Japanese Tools ... when only the best will do: March 2013
http://japanesetools.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Japanese Tools . when only the best will do. Tuesday, March 5, 2013. An ordinary street transformed. I couldn't believe my eyes as I drove past this short street in The Gap this morning. The Golden Pendas (Xanthostemon chrysanthus) were in flower like I have never seen before. Rainbow Lorrikeets were flying in and out of the trees to get the nectar from the flowers and the flowering of the trees has completely transformed the street into a wonderland. Japanese Tools ... when only the best will do: Chop, chop.......
http://japanesetools.blogspot.com/2015/02/chop-chop.html
Japanese Tools . when only the best will do. Friday, February 6, 2015. I came across a house building company in a quiet country location in the midst of preparing a house frame the Japanese way. They were using a combination of electric power tools and traditional hand tools to make intricate joints in the timber. These joints slide into one another and are held together with wooden pegs. Lots more future timber house frames in the distance. Check out the next blog to find out! Barry and Judy Jackson.

Japanese Tools . when only the best will do. Wednesday, February 4, 2015. A light to my path. Japanese paving is different in it's informality, textures, materials but still beautiful and interesting in all it's forms whether it's leading up to a restaurant, a public building or meandering through a sublime Japanese garden.
