My name is Jaco Pretorius and this is my blog. I was introduced to programming through the world of Turbo Pascal. And enjoyed it so much that I decided to make a career out of it. After a few years at University I spent two years learning C#. And doing financial programming in Cape Town. I then moved to Johannesburg where I learnt how the web works and became quite comfortable working on the ASP.NET MVC. Framework. In 2011 I packed my bags, left South Africa and moved to New York to join ThoughtWorks.

Loving and Hating programming languages. Jan 13, 2012. Yesterday I was involved in an interesting discussion about how, as developers, we tend to favor one programming language over the other. In fact developers are so passionate about their language choices that ‘favor’ is probably not the right word here. We often say we ‘love’ one language and ‘hate’ another we’re passionate about this stuff! Why are we so passionate about this? After some thought on the topic I have come up with 2 more basic reasons.
