Upper Loire enjoys relaxed country life, green valleys and the fine wines of Sancerre and Pouilly Fume. The pretty villages along the canal exude charm and personality. The Canal Lateral a la Loire. Runs parallel to the River Loire. The canal was built in the early 1800's to be a more consistent form of water travel then the River Loire which suffered from winter flooding and summer droughts. Today the Canal Lateral a la Loire is a peaceful system of gentle bends and man-made locks.

The “Peniche” Maguy. As in “Maggie Maggie May they have taken you away”. Maguy measures 28.5 meters by 5.05 metres and can fit in every lock in Europe.sometimes only just. Our Captain Jean Louis is a true canal expert who loves a real cup of coffee and the occasional glass of wine. Jean Louis was born on a Peniche and knows every trick in the book but to learn from him however you will have to speak in French! All fantastic trips and now the dilemma. Where should we go in 2017? Maguy is a fabulous “Peniche” (that's the French name for a barge with an engine as in France a “barge” doesn’t have its own means of propulsion) which can be simply described as a 1500 sq.ft. luxury floating apartment. My name is Mrs. Kirsten Jones. I grew up outside of Pittsburgh, PA and now live in Edgeworth, PA with my wonderful husband Dafyd and two amazing twin boys, Henry and Toby. From my earliest days, I loved to sing and I learned to play guitar as a teenager. I wrote my first song when I was five, and have been writing songs ever since!
