Topsell, finished | Elmsley Rose

As you can see, I’ve finished Topsell as a slip (on padded card), attached the slip to a green background, added some long stitches under his feet as in the original etching and then attached that to a green/gold background. I’ve just finished stitching calico to the back of the green/gold background to hide the lacing. Finished! I’ll do a post about lacing Topsell onto card separately. It’s much finer than the ‘usual’ flat plate. I don’t have any flat plate in my stash at the moment, or I’d do a comparison photo for you. Aka Megan H, Melbourne, Australia. After doing the butterfly, doing the stem in silver metal thread was next. First, the padding. Partially done. I started in the middle to help get the angle of the thread correct. I finally realised why one would want a mellor. I spent a lot of time pushing the threads together with my fingernail and you’re not supposed to touch the stuff anymore than necessary or it’ll tarnish. Tweezers bruised the thread, exposing the cotton core. Next, gold twist! From your own site.

Thursday, 11 December 2014. Crazy quilt, hardanger runner. Well the december block is done so now all I have to do is put the 12 together to make a wall hanging. The dark pink stitching on the top right hand side is Anundsjo stitch that Queenie shared on her blog Queenie`s needlework, I have done it a bit different to fill the spacce but so good to have used one of her Swedish stitches in my piece. Friday, 7 November 2014. Crazy stitching and spiders quilt. I also installed the malware onto the old computer and did a scan and it found loads of errors which Mcafee never found. It is going to my daughter and granddaughter as a back up if needed. Not much stitching done this week, I did my block for Bee Blessed will post it off to Ireland next week.
