Laquo; Meat Day. September 6, 2010 by japanecdote. I just watched an Anthony Bourdain No Reservations episode about Japan. Funny how sometimes it takes someone looking at it from the outside again to remind me how much I like Japan. It’s unbelievable. One day my rich ass will buy a summer home there just so I can go and sit on the Yamanote line and nod along as commuters say “Atsui, ne? Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. The seasons of Japan | Japanecdote
https://japanecdote.wordpress.com/2010/07/15/the-seasons-of-japan
The seasons of Japan. July 15, 2010 by japanecdote. Japan and its people like to advertise how their country is the only place that. Has four seasons. When I walked off the plane in Narita, a couple of very nice Japanese people came to pick me up. One of the first things the man said to me, trying to make small talk, was “Japan has four seasons. America has only one? 8221; I smiled and assured him that America is also familiar with seasons and doesn’t just jealously observe them from afar. Snowy season &...

July | 2010 | Japanecdote
https://japanecdote.wordpress.com/2010/07
Archive for July, 2010. On July 29, 2010 Leave a Comment. Today is meat day, a high holy day that occurs every month in Japan (except dirty, filthy February). Meat day is a clever pun made by at least one big yakiniku chain because the number 29 sounds kind of like the word for meat in Japanese. For whatever reason, they declared that on every meat day their all-you-can-eat meat grilling would be cheaper than usual. Then the meat shows up. And you’ll do it all again next month. This blog is as american as apple pie in japan. Hello, my name is Apple. Little memories: TV time. Talking with a friend today made me remember this. So sometimes I play with my kids during recess. Recently, though, with it being hot as the surface of the sun outside, I’ve been playing inside since the start of July. (After all, who likes being sweaty in work clothes? Don’t you just hate when that happens? Monsters always ruin TV time. Share on Facebook (Opens in new window). Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

The Apple Has Landed in Summer | Hello, my name is Apple.

This blog is as american as apple pie in japan. Hello, my name is Apple. The Apple Has Landed in Summer. Thank the asgardian gods above that this term is over. I just taught my last class of the term, and even though I am sitting in an un-airconditioned staffroom, I am content. This has been, hands down, the closest I’ve been to just wanting to jump ship and leave Japan. Is it cultural problems? Nah, those are wearing on me but I can deal with it. It is homesick problems? Is it a coworker problem? Mostly...

This blog is as american as apple pie in japan. Hello, my name is Apple. Sensei, it’s not going to work. This blog is as american as apple pie in japan. Hello, my name is Apple. Apple’s guide to the JET process. Since a lot of my traffic is JET-related, I thought I’d take a stab at the ol’ “information about JET” page. Page, not post, because hopefully it will be useful/interesting/whatever enough to be kept up for a longer than 5 posts on the main page. The most important thing I can tell you about applying to the JET Programme is that it is a long process. I cannot stress that enough. No one ever, ever wa...

This blog is as american as apple pie in japan. Hello, my name is Apple. Today was the first full day of the new year. I didn’t have classes yet, as they start on Thursday, but it was nice to have the halls crowded once more. But we also have some special new arrivals this year – 4 Filipino students. 8220;But these are their names.”. 8220;No, these are the Japan versions of their names. I need their real names for English class.”. 8220;Just use these.”. Oh my, I harped on it anyway. Oh well. 8221; She no...

This blog is as american as apple pie in japan. Hello, my name is Apple. I know うんこ in English. Sometimes my kids surprise me with the English they know. Sure, there are those students that know how to say “My name is…” in first grade before they start English class, and some of my older kids know more things because they do cds at home or go to lessons after school, but there are some more random things. The first thing he. Said to me was 英語みたい. What? I look like English? The language, not a place?

Just another WordPress.com site. March 7, 2011.

March 17, 2011 by japanecdote. It’s taken me a while to gather my thoughts about the disaster enough to write about them in a coherent way. I’m still not sure if this will be coherent, so bear with me. First of all, I’d just like to reiterate that I’m perfectly fine here. Life has not changed in any way except for our topics of conversation and the more somber mood. No one is panicking. No one is leaving. I figured I would just categorize everything. Let’s start with the easiest one, ANGER. So thanks eve...
