Racing on the Surface of The Sun: June 2008
http://surprisecyclist.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 30, 2008. Summit Center Classic: Climbing to a New Low. This was officially my first DNF (completed 20 miles of 57 before literally, passing out and falling off the bike) - I was bummed but I can actually say that the lack of form due to not being on the bike at all for two weeks coupled with being sick and the altitude was a recipe for disaster. I skipped lunch with the team and headed home. Event: Summit Center Classic - Flagstaff, AZ. Stage 1 Result - 22/29. Stage 2 - DNF. I was just glad...

http://surprisecyclist.blogspot.com/2008/10/nac-cyclocross-series-race-4-it-just.html
Saturday, October 25, 2008. NAC Cyclocross Series Race 4 - It just keeps getting better! After a two week hiatus, the NAC. Series got back underway. This time, we returned to Cave Creek Park (site of two races last year). I was eager to get back on the bike after not racing for a weekend. My training leading up to this race was ok. This was a larger field - again, the 35 raced with the 4s. I actually rolled up to the line a little late and got a bad spot in the second line. The start was very imp...I was...

http://surprisecyclist.blogspot.com/2008/11/nac-cyclocross-race-6-series-closer-in.html
Sunday, November 23, 2008. NAC Cyclocross Race #6 - Series Closer in Phoenix. The final race of the 2008 NAC. Series went off in Phoenix, AZ on Sunday, 11/23. It was a Cave Creek Park which is a great location for a cross race. Plenty of sand, twists and turns and run-ups. It was a fitting end to the 2008 series. The Course - Out of s/f we had some sweeping turns through trees, then a sweeping right hander. Lap started it got interesting. Matt attacked and gapped. All-in-all the race went well. I was...

Racing on the Surface of The Sun: April 2008
http://surprisecyclist.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 7, 2008. Colossal Cave Road Race - SUCCESS! Off of my result at TBC. I was hoping for a better performance at CC. Following the TBC. I put the hammer down on the training and focused on a solid recovery. I did come down with a weird cold feeling before the days leading up to this race But I figured since I raced the CX. Champs with a cold I would be ok. Going into lap 5. I think that was a perfect plan as I felt great the entire race and was. I got 7 th. Colossal Cave Road Race, Tucson, AZ,...

Racing on the Surface of The Sun: July 2008
http://surprisecyclist.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 30, 2008. Tortilla Flats #9 - I'm back! Never really got over 90 degrees and there was no humidity. When I came back to AZ and started training and racing in the heat, I hit another wall. It's amazing how the heat can affect your performance even if you have lived in it for three years. As part of my quest for form these past few weeks I've been training in the heat and hydrating. It paid off.finally. Race meal (smoothie and some beef jerky) along with 8 ounces of Powerade. Up the short c...
